Hi Everyone. I am Pete, the Vice President and as such it is my responsibility to run our club invitational shoots. Along with our President Al Wiscovitch, I also deal with the day to day running of the club in general, and specifically we handle any complaints or issues that any of you have. Naturally you are always free to voice any issues at our club meetings held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM in the clubhouse, however; Al and I are here to keep things running smooth on a daily basis. So, when problems arise, you should always feel free to contact either of us for immediate help.

Well, as I mentioned in last months newsletter, The Rendezvous was pushed back to the 18th of February. Setup was done on the 16th Friday morning and went flawlessly. I think we set up some very interesting shots by taking a different path into Bear valley, and utilizing the fallen trees from the previous weeks rain.

Saturday was in one word “spectacular”. Steve Baker did a fantastic job of putting on the Pig Roast, Donna Belvedere made some amazing coleslaw and baked beans to accompany the meal and it was a total sell out. Everyone loved it and I am sure that once word spreads to those of you who were not able to attend, that next year we will need a much bigger Pig. The following day on Sunday during the shoot, Brad and I had beans and coleslaw for lunch because it was so %#mn good. That was actually a full meal in itself.

Yes, all in all it would have been nice if we had not been forced to move the shoot to the same weekend that the state traditional shoot was being held but it turned out to be a very good weekend and those who did come out to shoot it had a wonderful time according to the reports that I received. I also want to make note of George Peach, Ken Villars family and Lee Cory, who came out to demonstrate the fine art of flint knapping. We now have the perfect blueprint for next years Rendezvous shoot “weekend” and with a few minor tweaks here and there, it will be bigger and better in the years to come. The ultimate plan here is to make this a real Rendezvous in all aspects. Good food, lots of fun activities, a place to swap or sell archery related things, and finish it off with a challenging tournament.

I want to commend Mark Houston for the Oranco Annual Champ Shoot that he just put on today 3/9/24. Long day, lot of arrows, and I’m thrilled to have finished (survived). With all the rain that we have been getting over the last few weeks, it was more difficult than most years to prepare for Mark’s shoot, and our Range Captain Jose really came through by getting all the lanes trimmed in time for today. The range looked great, thank you.

Pete.

We’d like to thank all of the Oranco members who participated in the "mini" winter league. The "mini" part was due, of course to the wet weather and rain delays we experienced. Thanks for everyone’s patience and understanding as we adjusted to the weather and scheduling challenges. Rain postponements aside, we still averaged sixty or so participants each weekend.

We will be handing out the awards for the winter league at the club banquet this upcoming May. Be sure to get your reservations in when you receive the invitation. Details will be posted on the club website as the date approaches and an email will go out to everyone on the newsletter mailing list. If you’re not already signed up for that, go to the website and sign up. It’s very easy.

The banquet has always been a great opportunity to celebrate each others accomplishments and enjoy each others company over some excellent food. This year’s entertainment will also include an extremely talented singer/songwriter, Tatiana Raines. You don’t want to miss any of it!

Scheduling for the nighttime Flint League will happen soon, so be sure you’re signed up to receive the newsletter to be notified.

Thanks again for your participation.

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range

Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!

Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings. We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.

Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.

Be safe and responsible everyone.
 Announcements

Range Beautification Party: We would greatly appreciate your help and support to the upcoming Work Parties. Keep an eye out for the email blast. All Club Members and their families are invited. Per Al Wiscovitch, Club President there will be an “ALL YOU CAN EAT LUNCH” served for ALL of our Volunteers who come out and help.

Your assistance ensures that the Oranco Bowmen Archery Club remains the best in Southern California. There is a reason why people travel from all over California to shoot at our Archery Club. Get involved and help us out.

Cook Shack Workers Needed: Positions are still available for volunteers to help out during the upcoming shoots.

Please contact Steve Baker in order to reserve your spot at: Cell# (951) 285-1550. First Come, First Served.

Target Camping: This is NOT Allowed...Period. Your Membership will be terminated for doing this! The Practice Butts are for sighting in, improving your archery skills, and honing your accuracy. The Roving Range is just that, Roving. Shoot 4 arrows, Score them, then move on to the next target.

You have been warned. Don't do it. It is not worth it.

7 Common Mistakes When Hunting a New Property

If you want to see a hunter work hard, just give him or her access to a prime new piece of hunting land in a big buck region. You’ll witness countless hours of tree stand work, trail camera deployment, and scribbles of promising habitat and land management plans saved into their favorite hunting app. Whether you purchased it, leased it, or gained access to it—hunting new digs is fun, yet intimidating.
