Hey Oranco Bowmen

Oranco Spring League

Saturday May 1st was the last day of Spring League and all the archers who participated had a fantastic shoot! Al Wiscovich ( League chairman ) really outdid himself, the league shoots just get better and better! We all enjoyed the BBQ lunch provided by Oranco Bowman Spring League, and the potluck dishes brought in by the members. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place archers received their awards. My daughter Justine and I are really looking forward to the next round of League competition. If you haven't had a chance to participate in League shoots you're really missing out. Many thanks go out to everyone who made this event such a huge success!

Bowhunters 3D Championship

This Saturday May 15th we will be holding the first annual Bowhunter 3D Championship!
We're inviting everyone to come down and enjoy this new tournament at Oranco Bowmen archery range. Free BBQ lunch and refreshments at Cookshack. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the tournament! Check out the attached Bowhunters 3D Championship flyer below for more information.

League Chairman

Good evening everyone,

As I start this newsletter, we are just finishing our spring 3-D league and would like to thank everyone who came out and had a chance to shoot one or all five weeks of our league. I hope you all enjoyed shooting and hanging out with your favorite club member. It was fun to see so many new faces out shooting and wanting to get better at 3-D shooting.

I would like to share that I just got my first recurve bow, so that I could learn how longbow and recurve shooters shots compared to compound bows. I must say shooting a recurve is very humbling to say the least. As league chairman it is important that I understand how all of you shoot your bows so that we can offer the best shooting experience to our shooters. So please drop me your thoughts on what we can do to improve our 3-D shooting.

This year we added the Toughman 2-person teams and where very pleased to see so many of you come out and shoot it. It’s fair to say that we will be doing this again. Again this was a leaning lessen for many of you and fun seeing who was able to match up with the right person. In my opinion judging yardage can be a big challenge for so many of us but with practice and learning from those who find it less challenging to shoot unmarked shots.

Enclosing, I could put on a clinic in the near future and have some of our better unmarked shooters come out and help those that want to learn more about the art of unmarked shooting. So let me know if some of you would like to work with some of our better 3-D shooters….
Thanks again!

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range

Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!

Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.

Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings. We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.

Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.

Be safe and responsible everyone.

Bow Lingo for Beginners

Archery can be intimidating. Don't let it be. Understand these terms and how they relate to your shooting success, and your path will be one of enjoyment and not confusion.

Public-Land Etiquette for Turkey Hunters

When I pulled into a parking area of J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area in Central Florida for the Osceola opener, I wasn’t the only early bird. I knew that opening day would be busy, but with six other vehicles already parked and hunters readying their gear, I had a feeling that all of the spots I’d picked out during a pre-hunt scouting mission would be occupied. I wrestled with what to do, but went forward with plan A. As I readied my own gear, more vehicles arrived.
