Club President
Hi there everyone,
Hope you are all doing well and have had a chance to get out and do some hunting. Well a few of us were able to make opening day for Dove opener. It was a very wet weekend of hunting but we were able to get it done. It was nice to see a few of our club members out around the same place we were hunting. Darwin and Chris Archeletta. Jose and Benny were able to meet up with Mark and I. Jose had his new dog Scout out for the first time and it was fun to see him learning how to pick up birds and retrieve them back to hand. All and all it was a good trip with a lot of rain.
As most of you use the range weekly, you may have noticed how green our range has gotten with the rains we have gotten lately. You may have also noticed that things are growing. Well, our new Kubota is down and in the shop being repaired at the moment. We are waiting on parts and hope to have them soon. Jose has been busy trying to keep up with other duties and can always use the extra help out there so when you see him putting out an email requesting help please try and sign up for some of the duties he is working on.
We are now shooting the state 900 and Dave Bacon is in charge and just finished the first week of shooting and from what I've been told all has gone well to this point. We will be shooting again this coming weekend. If you are signed up, good luck to you. I hope to see you out there this weekend.
The next big event will be our Tomahawk event. This will be a 2-day event. Please look it up on our website and plan to shoot it. It’s a very fun 3-D marked yardage event.
I know lots of you have been asking for club t-shirts. I'm hoping to have them in about a month’s time. We will be selling t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and club jerseys.
Jim Teel, our club member, will be making water stations that will hold our 5-gal jugs. These will be used for our tournaments this will help to keep them off the ground and tables

Range Captain
Hello to all members, prospective members,
For those of you that don’t know who I am, I’d like to first off introduce myself and your Range Captain of Oranco Bowmen. I am also the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Region 6 Legislative Representative for California Bow Hunters and State Archers Association as well as your Orange Belt Field Archers Region 59 Secretary. As you can see, I wear a few hats and I wear them proudly.
This month has not been the busiest for us here seeing as the Spring has come and gone. Now that Summer is here, the “lawn” has been a whole lot more manageable. But, with a different season come different challenges. Now is the time to start repairs, build and so much more. Bale rotations and range inspections are on my list of things to do so if you’re interested in getting a bit more involved, reach out to me. You can find my contact info on the website under the contacts list or just wave me down at the range.
I’d really like to take this time and thank the many of you who come out to enjoy our facility, whether you’re a weekend warrior or a member who comes often, thank you very much for your hard work and efforts you put in to this place. My goal here at this club is to provide a true 5 star facility in every aspect of it. From keeping the grass low to building and improving our home. I take a lot of pride in this place and I really hope you do too. Unfortunately, this club is not beautiful by accident, it takes a lot of work and efforts on everyone’s part. This is why I challenge each and every one of you to take action, step up to the plate and get involved. There is always many things to do here in the club and we’re always looking for volunteers such as yourself to come out and help us make this place better every day.
To those of you who have taken on responsibilities within our club by taking a range or lane assignment, thank you very much for your hard work and efforts. You are, after all in my opinion, the unsung heroes that make the wheels go round. With so many tasks on hand and such limited time, it is impossible for just a few people to get all the work done. With that being said, feel free to reach out to me and ask me about possible opportunities to get involved more with this wonderful club. My line is always open and my schedule is very fair to be able to accommodate even the simplest of phone calls and text.
Without further tying you up, thank you for being a member at Oranco Bowmen and for the contributions and work you put in.

Tournament Chairman
Hi All,
We just finished up the first two days of our State Target Championships. Two more days to go on September 23rd and 24th. As usual, we had our JOAD day first and it was hot and humid but the kids stuck it out and finished the day. I am very proud of them. They trained all year and brought their “A” game. Sunday the 10th was the first day of mostly adults and while it was a bit cooler in the morning, it got hot in the afternoon but that is just par for the course this time of year. All in all it was a great weekend and I am looking forward the next two shoots. If you haven’t signed up yet, do it soon. We always fill up, information on the home page of our website.
I want to thank our staff and volunteers for doing such a great job getting the 900 field ready to go and for helping out at the shoot. It is always appreciated.
Hope to see you out there,
David

Membership Chairmen
Hello to all members and future members,
I would like to introduce myself as your new Membership Chair and hopefully for many years to come. I’d like to thank everyone that has approached and congratulated me for taking on board this position and also for those how have asked if I needed help. These past few weeks I have been focused on making sure I contact every member that has not yet been received their quiver card. I ask if you can be patient with me since there are a few things that needed to be fix.
Moving forward my goal for this year is to make things easier and accessible for both of us, if you have not yet received a quiver card please contact me my number is in the website. Also keep in mind if you haven’t renewed you association card unfortunately I can not issue you the quiver card and you will not receive the gate combination. Remember, it is your responsibility as a member to keep them current. Once received please email it or send confirmation by text. Your dues must be paid as well, I’ve sent reminders to those with an open invoice please check your emails and pay on time to avoid a late fee. Make sure your membership card is visible when coming to the range, we will be checking for quiver cards. With all that to the side, thank you very much for choosing Oranco Bowmen as your home range, we hope you appreciate it as much as we do.

Oranco Bowmen Archery Range
Occupying about 45 acres, Oranco Bowmen Archery Club is a NFAA certified 5-star range. This is the highest certification given by NFAA. We are the only range in Southern California with practice butts from 10-80 yards in 5-yard increments. If you need a place to "dial in" your bow, this is it!
Oranco also has two NFAA roving courses: Our Valley Course is a level 28-target course, consisting of 14 animal and 14 hunter paper targets. For those who desire a bit more of a physical challenge, our Mountain Course is a hilly 28-target course offering 14 Field targets and another set of 14 animal paper targets. The Layout changes occasionally.

Oranco is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.
Please remember to lock your vehicles when you are not present and always take your equipment home with you. We have received reports about stolen equipment, and want everyone to understand that you alone are responsible for your belongings. We advise you to put your identification information on your belongings and try not to leave anything unattended.
Remember: We are open to the public on Sundays and during shoots. During these events it is much more difficult to track who is on range property, especially if people do not sign in at the office.
Be safe and responsible everyone.

In my home state of Minnesota, the firearm season opens the first weekend of November. This means that for many years, bowhunters relinquished the woods to the orange army within the first few days of the month. When I was younger, that bothered me a lot. I wanted to hunt the rut, but it just wasn’t a real option. Instead, I had to figure out the early-season game to consistently kill mature bucks.

Bowhunting: How Far Can You Shoot, or How Close Can You Get?
I could see white antler tines gleaming above the thick brown swamp grass, the early morning sun hitting at the right angle so it seemed ethereal. I knew by the length of the tines that they belonged to a far bigger buck than any I had ever shot.
