|
Business, political and labor leaders at a rally for the expansion of Route 17 seemed to all agree that the project is nearing the finish line but there is still work to do. In fact, one local State Senator said that it is no longer a question of if this long-delayed and much-needed project will be undertaken, but when ground will be broken.

The rally organized by the 17-Forward-86 coalition was held at the Galleria at Crystal Run in the Town of Wallkill, NY.

Guest Column: Supply Chain Disruption, Escalating Costs Could Mean Feast or Famine for Construction Industry in 2022
|
James Decker is trying to make sense of an email that he received from a supplier that is all too commonplace these days.
Decker, the Purchasing Manager for Perreca Electric Co., placed an order on October 26 for three pieces of equipment with a 45-day lead time. It was supposed to be shipped by the end of December. But on Dec. 15, he was told by the supplier that the order is being “pushed off” until Feb. 21. That’s the shipping date. There’s no guarantee when Decker might actually see the items.

New Report Says Future Lies in Conversion of Outdated Office Space to Medical, Life Science, Multifamily Uses
|
A recently released report by NAIOP points to the conversion of outdated and underutilized office space into medical, life science and multifamily uses will be critical in the reduction of bloated office vacancy rates across the nation.
The report issued by the NAIOP Research Foundation states, “Although it is difficult to estimate the amount of office space that will become available as long-term leases expire in the years ahead, there will probably be an excess supply of office buildings in most markets.”

Rising Inflation Has Not Yet Caused Consumers to Curtail Spending
|
Commercial brokerage firm Cushman & Wakefield has taken a deep dive into the troubling topic of inflation and has come to some very interesting conclusions about the reasons behind its rise and how long and deep its impact will be on the U.S. economy.
The recently released Cushman report authored by Senior Economist James Bohnaker and Head of Economic Analysis & Forecasting Rebecca Rockey contends that while U.S. inflation is at its highest level in 40 years, it has not yet had a material impact on overall consumer spending.
