Chiming of the Hour

Pouring of the Water

Welcome and Announcements

Prelude: Jonathan Setzer, organ

Call to Worship:
Peace be with you. Jesus stands among us.
Peace be with you. The risen Lord is here.
Let us testify to the resurrection:
Christ is risen! We lay our lives at his feet.
Alleluia! Let us praise God’s holy name.

Hymn 234: "Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain"
Come, you faithful, raise the strain of triumphant gladness!
God has brought forth Israel into joy from sadness,
loosed from Pharaoh’s bitter yoke Jacob’s sons and daughters;
led them with unmoistened foot through the Red Sea waters.

’Tis the spring of souls today: Christ has burst his prison,
and from three days’ sleep in death as a sun has risen.
All the winter of our sins, long and dark, is flying
from the Light, to whom we give laud and praise undying.

Neither could the gates of death, nor the tomb’s dark portal,
nor the watchers, nor the seal hold you as a mortal:
but today, among your own, you appear, bestowing
your deep peace, which evermore passes human knowing.

Prayer of the Day:
Almighty and eternal God,
the strength of those who believe
and the hope of those who doubt,
may we, who have not seen,
have faith and receive
the fullness of Christ’s blessing,
who is alive and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession:
Eternal God, our judge and redeemer,
we confess that we have tried to hide from you,
for we have done wrong.
We have lived for ourselves
and apart from you.
We have turned from our neighbors
and refused to bear the burdens of others.
We have ignored the pain of the world
and passed by the hungry, the poor, and the oppressed.
In your great mercy forgive our sins
and free us from selfishness,
that your Word be seen among us:
there was not a needy person among them.
Through Jesus Christ our Savior.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Hymn of Praise: "Thine is the Glory"

Profession of Faith (8:30 AM)
…with the whole church, let us confess our faith:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Thanksgiving over the Water (8:30 AM)
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
(…. minister continues the prayer)

The Baptism (8:30 AM)
Let us welcome the newly baptized…
with joy and thanksgiving we welcome you into Christ’s Church to share with us in this ministry, for we are all one in Christ.

Prayer for Illumination:
God our helper,
by your Holy Spirit, open our minds,
that as the scriptures are read
and your word is proclaimed,
we may be led into your truth
and taught your will,
for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Acts 4:32-35
Sermon: As Each Has Need, Mary Sellers Shaw

Prayers of the People:
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Prayer of Dedication

Closing Hymn 547: "Go, My Children, with My Blessing"
"Go, my children, with my blessing, never alone.
Waking, sleeping, I am with you, you are my own.
In my love's baptismal river I have made you mine forever.
Go, my children, with my blessing, you are my own."

"Go, my children, fed and nourished, closer to me.
Grow in love and love by serving, joyful and free.
Here my Spirit's power filled you; here my tender comfort stilled you.
Go, my children, fed and nourished, joyful and free."
