Prelude: Jesus Shall Reign, R. Wienhorst
Call to Worship
The Lord, the God of ages, is present to us at all times.
Let us turn aside from all that distracts,
for we are on holy ground.
The Lord, the great I AM, is with us.
Let us turn aside from self and striving,
for we are on holy ground.
The Lord, the God of our ancestors, summons us to worship.
Let us turn aside, quiet our souls, and listen for the Word,
for we are on holy ground.
Hymn 265: Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun (Verses 1, 3, and 5)
Prayer of the Day
God of life, the great I AM,
speak to us out of the fire of your love.
Light a fire of love in our hearts for you,
light a fire of compassion in our hearts for our neighbors,
light a fire of humble justice in our hearts for your world,
and light a fire of grace in our hearts as we worship.
Give us the strength to turn aside and see you
as you come to us in the fire of love,
in Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession
God of life,
you have shown us through your servant Moses
that your will for your people and for all the earth
is freedom and peace.
We confess that, like Moses,
we can be reluctant in our response to you.
We diminish our gifts,
failing to trust that you have given us all we need.
We are fearful to take the steps faith requires,
that your freedom and peace may be made known.
We reject the life you offer to us and the world,
preferring to walk our own way.
We see you at work in the world and walk by unaffected,
refusing to turn aside from what we think we know
to see the new thing you are doing.
Forgive us, God of life.
Give us the strength and courage to walk in your way,
that all may know the abundance of your freedom and peace,
to the glory of your holy name.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Hymn of Praise: Praise Ye The Lord
Praise ye the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation.
O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to his temple draw near; join me in glad adoration!
Time with the Young Church
Prayer for Illumination
Turn us aside, God of light.
Turn us aside from every voice but your own,
that hearing, we may trust;
and trusting, follow you in light and life.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the People
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
