Welcome and Announcements
Prelude: "Renew Me, O Lord Christ", Paul Manz
Call to Worship:
To you, O Lord, we lift up our hearts.
God, in you we trust.
Make us to know your ways.
Lead us in your truth, and teach us.
You are the God of our salvation; for you we wait all day long.
We will worship the Lord in holiness.
Hymn 415: "Come, Ye Sinner, Poor and Needy"
Come, ye sinners, poor and needy, weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity, love, and power.
I will arise and go to Jesus; he will embrace me in his arms.
In the arms of my dear Savior, O there are ten thousand charms.
Come, ye thirsty, come, and welcome; God’s free bounty glorify,
true belief and true repentance, every grace that brings you nigh.
I will arise and go to Jesus; he will embrace me in his arms.
In the arms of my dear Savior, O there are ten thousand charms.
Come, ye weary, heavy laden, lost and ruined by the fall;
if you tarry till you’re better, you will never come at all.
I will arise and go to Jesus; he will embrace me in his arms.
In the arms of my dear Savior, O there are ten thousand charms.
Prayer of the Day:
God of all times,
in this holy season of Lent,
as we journey with our Lord to the cross,
help us to discern in our lives
what we must lay down
and what we must take up;
what we must end
and what we must begin.
Give us, in this time of self-examination,
courage to pray honest prayers,
and wisdom to listen for your answer.
Give us grace to live a disciplined life,
in glad obedience and with the joy
which comes from a closer walk with Christ. Amen.
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession:
Gracious God, we come before you
in need of forgiveness and grace.
You call us to trust in you completely,
but we do not.
We are timid and fearful as we follow your lead.
We justify our actions and words,
though we know they are not what you require.
We succumb to temptation,
preferring old habits to risky discipleship.
Forgive us, we pray.
As you were cared for in the wilderness
in your time of temptation,
so care for us,
that we might be strengthened to follow you.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Hymn of Praise: "Praise to the Lord"
Praise ye the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him!
Let the amen sound from his people again; gladly for aye we adore him.
Prayer for Illumination:
God of mercy,
you promised never to break your covenant with us.
Amid all the changing words of our generation,
speak your eternal word that does not change.
Then may we respond to your gracious promises
with faithful and obedient lives;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Affirmation of Faith:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the People:
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Offertory Music: "There's Not a Friend Like the Lowly Jesus", Virgil Thompson
Doxological Verse 606: "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow"
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures, here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Prayer of Dedication
Closing Hymn 490: "Wash, O God, Your Sons and Daughters"
Wash, O God, your sons and daughters, newborn creatures of your womb.
Number them among your people, raised like Christ from death and tomb.
Weave them garments bright and sparkling; compass them with love and light.
Fill, anoint them; send your Spirit, holy dove and heart’s delight.
Every day we need your nurture; by your milk may we be fed.
Let us join your feast, partaking cup of blessing, living bread.
God, renew us; guide our footsteps, free from sin and all its snares,
one with Christ in living, dying, by your Spirit, children, heirs.
O how deep your holy wisdom! Unimagined, all your ways!
To your name be glory, honor! With our lives we worship, praise!
We your people stand before you, water-washed and Spirit-born.
By your grace, our lives we offer. Re-create us; God, transform!
Benediction
