Welcome and Announcements

Prelude: "Dialogue in C Major", Gordon Young

Call to Worship:
In the presence of the Triune God whose covenant upholds us,
              we give thanks for the love and grace of God.
In the presence of Christ whose life reveals the gracious promise of God,
              we give thanks for the love and grace of God.
In the presence of the Spirit who stirs within and among us to make God’s
grace real to us,
              we give thanks for the love and grace of God.

Hymn 41: "O Worship the King, All Glorious Above"
O worship the King, all glorious above!
O gratefully sing God's power and God’s love:
Our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days,
pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise.

Your bountiful care what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air; it shines in the light;
It streams from the hills; it descends to the plain,
and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
in you do we trust, nor find you to fail;
Your mercies, how tender, how firm to the end,
our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.

Prayer of the Day:
God of our ancestors,
as your chosen servant Abram
received a new name and a new call
to go out into the unknown,
so may your church be granted such faith
that we may follow you with courage,
for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession:
God of grace,
your covenant binds us together as children of Abraham and Sarah.
Through it, you offer us love and mercy beyond our imaginations.
Forgive us, for we cannot love the way you do.
Our grace is momentary, when yours is constant.
We seek fairness, you offer boundless love.
Our promises are fleeting, yours are eternal and sure.
Our ways are not your ways, O God.
We confess our limitations, our imperfect love, our broken promises.
Have mercy on us, and help us to reflect
the steadfast covenant you make with us
and the love and mercy you shower upon us in Christ.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Hymn of Praise: "Praise to the Lord"
Praise ye the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him!
Let the amen sound from his people again; gladly for aye we adore him.

Time with the Young Church: Children's Bulletin

Prayer for Illumination:
God of mercy,
you promised never to break your covenant with us.
Amid all the changing words of our generation,
speak your eternal word that does not change.
Then may we respond to your gracious promises
with faithful and obedient lives;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16
Sermon: Everlasting Covenant, Chris Joiner

Affirmation of Faith:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People:
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Offertory Music: "My Faith Looks Up to Thee", Gordon Young

Doxological Verse 606: "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow"
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures, here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Prayer of Dedication

Closing Hymn 687: "Our God, Our Help in Ages Past"
Our God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come,
our shelter from the stormy blast,
and our eternal home:

Before the hills in order stood,
or earth received its frame,
from everlasting thou art God,
to endless years the same.

Our God, our help in ages past,
our hope for years to come,
be thou our guard while life shall last,
and our eternal home.
