Pouring of the Water

Welcome and Announcements

Prelude: "Offertorio", Domenico Zipoli

Call to Worship:
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due God’s name,
              worship the Lord in holy splendor.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
              the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful,
              the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

Opening Hymn 490: "Wash, O God, Your Sons and Daughters" (VERSES 1 and 3)

Prayer of the Day:
Eternal God,
at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan
you proclaimed him your beloved Son,
and anointed him with the Holy Spirit.
Grant that all who are baptized into his name
may keep the covenant they have made,
and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior;
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,
one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession:
Merciful God,
in baptism you promise forgiveness and new life,
making us part of the body of Christ.
We confess that we remain preoccupied with ourselves,
separated from sisters and brothers in Christ.
We cling to destructive habits, hold grudges
and show reluctance to welcome one another;
we allow the past to hold us hostage.

In your loving kindness, have mercy on us,
and free us from sin.
Remind us of the promises you make in baptism
so that we may rise to new life
and live together in grace.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Hymn of Praise 581: "Glory Be to the Father"

Time with the Young Church: Children's Bulletin

Prayer for Illumination:
Gracious God,
we do not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from your mouth.
Make us hungry for this heavenly food,
that it may nourish us today
in the ways of eternal life;
through Jesus Christ, the bread of heaven. Amen.

Affirmation of Faith:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People:
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
