Prelude: "Three Meditative Moments I. Jesus Makes My Heart Rejoice", Robert Elmore
Call to Worship:
God calls us by name, and we answer, “Here I am!”
God calls us by name, and we say, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
Let us worship the God who claims us and calls us.
We will worship God, who sends us forth as children of blessing and promise.
Opening Hymn 403: "Open Now, Thy Gates of Beauty" (VERSES 1 and 3)
Prayer of the Day:
Eternal God,
your Son, Jesus Christ,
now exalted as Lord of all,
pours out his gifts on the church,
and calls us to service.
Grant us that obedience which your Spirit enables,
keep us in the bond of peace,
and bring all creation to worship before you;
through Jesus Christ our Redeemer,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession:
Gracious God,
you invite us to follow you, but we question your motives.
You invite us to come and see, but we criticize and judge.
You call us by name, and we do not respond.
Forgive our unwillingness to trust in your grace
and join you in your work in the world.
Forgive us, we pray, that we might follow you
and share in your gracious intentions for the creation.
Give us eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to trust you.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Hymn of Praise 581: "Glory Be to the Father"
Prayer for Illumination:
Lord, open our hearts and minds
by the power of your Holy Spirit,
that as the scriptures are read
and your Word is proclaimed,
we may hear with joy what you say to us today.
Amen.
Affirmation of Faith:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the People:
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
