Welcome and Announcements

Prelude: Theme and Variation, Richard Proulx

Call to Worship:
Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us also lay aside every weight
and the sin that clings so closely.
Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.
Praise the Lord!
The Lord’s name be praised.

Prayer of the Day:
Eternal God,
neither death nor life can separate us from your love.
Grant that we may serve you faithfully here on earth,
and in heaven rejoice with all your saints
who ceaselessly proclaim your glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Hymn 299: You Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim (Verses 1, 3, and 4)

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession:
Eternal God,
you have set out the path of blessedness in Jesus Christ,
calling us to hunger and thirst for righteousness,
to be peacemakers, and to walk with humility before you.
We confess that we are indifferent to your will.
We hunger and thirst for that which cannot satisfy.
We prefer division over peace, trampling over neighbors.
We lack the humility to confess, trusting more in ourselves than in your grace.
Grant us courage to follow in your way,
that joined with those from ages past
who have served you with faith, hope, and love,
we may inherit the earth you intend,
and kingdom you promise in Jesus Christ.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Hymn of Praise: Glory be to the Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen. Amen.

Time with the Young Church: Children's Bulletin
Questions to ask:
I wonder what part of the Bible story is most important for me today?
I wonder when did I experience something beautiful or good this past week?
I wonder who and what am I thankful for today?

Prayer for Illumination:
Faithful God, how blessed are those
who hunger and thirst for righteousness.
Sanctify us by your Word and Spirit
so that we may glorify you
in the company of the faithful;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Gospel Reading: Matthew 5:1-12
Sermon: Blessed are You - Chris Joiner

Affirmation of Faith:
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of the People:
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
