Prelude: Prelude on “Hursley” Garret Parker
Call to Worship:
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is pure,
whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable.
In this time of worship, let us think on these things,
and may the peace of God be with us all.
Praise the Lord!
Prayer of the Day:
God of life,
bless us with your presence
and guide our worship,
that we may drink deeply of your grace
and live lives that honor and please you.
We pray this in the name of Christ,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Hymn 645: Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above (Verses 1 and 4)
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession:
God of grace,
at the font of baptism and the table of the Lord
we remember your love and are nourished for our lives before you.
We confess that it is easy for us to forget what we learn in these sacraments -
what is true, honorable, pure, pleasing, and commendable.
Worry and anxiety cause us to forget your grace,
steal our joy and our peace,
and cause us to live frantic lives.
Only your forgiveness can restore what we have lost.
Only your grace can bring joy and peace into our parched lives.
Forgive us, O God.
Set us free from sin,
and restore to us the joy of our salvation,
for the sake of Christ.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Hymn of Praise: Glory be to the Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.
Prayer for Illumination:
O God,
by your Spirit tell us what we need to hear,
and show us what we ought to do,
to obey Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
