Welcome and Announcements

Prelude: Jesus Ever Faithful, Ever Near, Franklin Ritter

Call to Worship:
We come together to celebrate the grace of God.
              We are a forgiven people.
We have received mercy beyond our imagining.
In the strength of this blessing
we offer our praise and thanksgiving.
Praise the Lord!
              The Lord’s name be praised.

Hymn 234: Come, You Faithful, Raise the Strain (Verses 1 and 4)

Prayer of the Day:
God of mercy:
Help us to forgive, as you have forgiven us.
Help us to trust you, even when hope is failing.
Help us to take up our cross daily
and follow you in your redeeming work;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession:
Lord Christ,
at times we are like strangers on this earth,
taken aback by all the violence, the harsh oppositions.
At other times we are part of the violence,
refusing to love, lost in anger, strangers to forgiveness.
Like a gentle breeze, breathe upon us the Spirit of peace.
Transform the deserts of our doubts,
and prepare us to live as a forgiven and forgiving people
wherever you place us,
until the day when everlasting peace
dawns in our hearts and in our world.
Forgive us all, loving Christ.

Assurance of Forgiveness

Hymn of Praise: Praise Ye The Lord
Praise ye the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation.
O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to his temple draw near; join me in glad adoration!

Sermon: The Main Thing - Chris Joiner

Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
