Pouring the Water
Prelude: Prelude on Nicaea, H. Livingston
Call to Worship:
Jesus has promised us:
I am with you when you gather in my name.
We rejoice in the presence of the Lord.
Inspired by Christ’s Spirit and confident of his promises,
We offer our worship with joy and thanksgiving.
Hymn 396: Brethren, We Have Met to Worship (Verses 1 and 4)
Prayer of the Day:
God of life,
you have called us to life abundant,
placing us in community that we might be a sign
of what you intend for all the world.
As we worship, increase the bonds of our community.
Help us to feel our deep connection to you and to one another.
Create pathways of reconciliation and peace
among us and in the world, to the glory of Christ,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen.
Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession:
From the beginning until now, loving God,
we have turned away from you,
following lesser ways, pursuing a lesser life
than the life offered us in Christ.
Yet you will not abandon us.
Your grace gives us the strength to pray to you,
offering our confession in response.
Forgive us when we fall away,
when we reject community, when we are filled with pride,
unwilling to reconcile or be reconciled.
Set before us the pathway for our living
that reflects to others the grace we have received for ourselves.
Forgive us, in the name of the one who is perfect grace.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Hymn of Praise: Praise Ye The Lord
Praise ye the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation.
O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to his temple draw near; join me in glad adoration!
Time with the Young Church
Prayer for Illumination:
O Lord our God,
your Word is a lamp unto our feet
and a light to our path.
Give us grace to receive your truth in faith and love,
that we may be obedient to your will
and live always for your glory;
through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of the People
Lord in your mercy,
Hear our prayer.
