Call to Worship

Liturgist: Look - here is the Lamb of God, the One who takes away the sin of the world.

People: We come seeking the One who reveals God's love and truth.

Liturgist: John pointed to Jesus and said, "This is the Chosen One of God."

People: We listen for that witness and open our hearts to follow.

Liturgist: Jesus turns to those who follow and asks, "What are you looking for?"

People: We are looking for meaning, for hope, for a love that transforms.

Liturgist: Jesus says, "Come, and see."

People: We come to worship, to remain with Christ, and to be changed by his presence.

Opening Prayer

Gracious and revealing God, you call us out of ordinary time and into your presence. You meet us not with spectacle, but with an invitation – Come and see. In this season of Epiphany, open our eyes to recognize Christ among us. Open our ears to hear voices that speak truth with courage. Open our hearts to follow Jesus in ways that reflect your love. Where the world is divided, teach us the way of reconciliation. Where injustice persists, give us strength to bear your light. Where fear narrows our vision, widen our hearts with hope. Stay with us, O Christ, as we worship. Reveal yourself again, and shape us into people ready to follow. We pray in your holy name. Amen.

ATTENTION TO THE WORD OF GOD

Scripture Readings: John 1:29-42

29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, “Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One.”[a]

35 The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and as he watched Jesus walk by he exclaimed, “Look, here is the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38 When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon. 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated Anointed[b]). 42 He brought Simon[c] to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas”[d] (which is translated Peter[e]). (NRSV)

Offertory Prayer

God of abundant grace, all that we have and all that we are come from you. As we bring our gifts this day, we offer more than money – we offer our gratitude, our trust, and our desire to follow Jesus more fully. Receive these gifts as signs of our commitment to live as people who have found the Messiah and who long to share that good news with the world. Bless what is given and those who give, that through these offerings your love may be made visible, your justice pursued, and your peace shared. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
