Call to Worship

Liturgist: Jesus calls us up the mountain, to hear a word that reshapes our lives.

People: We come seeking blessing, truth, and hope.

Liturgist: In a world that praises strength and success, Jesus names humility, mercy, and peacemaking as the way of life.

People: Open our hearts to receive your blessings, O God.

Liturgist: Come, just as your are, and listen for Christ's voice.

People: We come to worship the God who grace transforms us all.

Opening Prayer

Holy and gracious God, you gather us as Jesus once gathered the crowds on the hillside. We come with full hearts and weary hearts, with hope and with longing, with questions we carry quietly and prayers we barely know how to speak. Speak to us again through your Son, whose words bless the unlikely and promise comfort, mercy, and joy to those the world often overlooks. Open our ears to hear your truth, our hearts to receive your blessing, and our lives to reflect the values of your kingdom. Shape us by grace, so that we may live as your children - hungering for righteousness, practicing mercy, and working for peace. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our teacher, our blessing, and our hope. Amen.

Opening Hymn

Holy Communion

Invitation to the Lord's Table

Come to the Lord's Table, all you who love him.

Come to the Lord's Table, confess your sin.

Come to the Lord's Table, be at peace.

Thanksgiving and Communion

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to you, Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to praise you, Lord.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing,

Always and everywhere to give thanks to you,

Holy Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

From the rising of the sun to its setting

your name is praised among all peoples.

Therefore we praise you,

joining our voices with your people on earth

and all the company of heaven

who forever sing this hymn to the glory of your name:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord,

God of power and might,

heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest!

Blessed is the One who comes

in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest!   (UM Hymnal p. 17)

You are holy, Almighty One!

Blessed are you, Jesus Christ!

In the power of the Spirit

you created all things, blessed them, and called them good.

You called to yourself a people

To make your mercy and truth known in all the world.

We betrayed your calling;

You were faithful.

We wandered from the way;

You called us to return, and led us home.

And still we turned from your ways,

abused your creatures,

and made ourselves slaves to sin and death.

At the right time

you came and dwelt among us, as one of us,

bringing good news to the poor,

healing the sick, raising the dead,

sharing table with the unrighteous,

and teaching the way that leads to life.

By your incarnation, life, suffering, execution and resurrection

You gave birth to your church,

delivered us from slavery

and made a new covenant with us

by water and the Spirit.

On the night of your betrayal, Lord Jesus,

you took bread, blessed it, broke it, gave it to your disciples and said,

"This is my body which is given for you.

Do this in remembrance of me."

You did the same with the cup after the supper, saying,

"This cup that is poured out is the new covenant in my blood."

Blessed Trinity, in remembrance of all you have done to save us,

we offer ourselves to you in praise and thanksgiving

as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us,

as we sing (proclaim) the mystery of our faith:

Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again! (UM Hymnal p. 18)

Pour out your Spirit on us.

Pour out your Spirit on us.

Pour out your Spirit on these gifts.

Pour out your Spirit on these gifts.

Make these gifts the body and blood of Christ.

Make us, through them, Christ's body alive in the world.

Abba, Father!

Let your kingdom come!

Come, Lord Jesus!

Be our daily bread.

Holy Spirit!

Send us to the world.

Holy, Blessed Trinity!

One God forever!

Amen. (Hymnal 18, Musical Setting A)

Breaking the Bread

As we share one loaf and one cup, may we become one with the world, bringing good news to all. And hear us now as we are bold to say together the words Jesus taught:

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Giving the Bread and Cup

Prayer after Communion

Lord, you now have set your servants free

to go in peace as you have promised.

For these eyes of ours have seen the Savior

whom you have prepared for all the world to see!

Blessing and honor and glory are yours,

now and forever. Amen. (Discipleship Ministries The United Methodist Church)

ATTENTION TO THE WORD OF GOD

Scripture Readings: Matthew 5:1-12

When Jesus[a] saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 And he began to speak and taught them, saying:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely  on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

LiturgistThe word of God for the people of God.

People: Thanks be to God.

Offering

 “We Would See Jesus”

UMH #256 (verses 3 & 5)

Doxology

UMH #94

Offertory Prayer

Generous and faithful God, every good gift comes from you - the breath in our lungs, the mercy that meets us each morning, and the blessing that sustains us through joy and sorrow. As we offer our gifts today, we do so in gratitude and trust. Receive these offerings, and use them to feed those who hunger, to comfort those who mourn, to strengthen peacemakers, and to reveal your kingdom in this world. May all that we give - our resources, our time, our very lives - be signs of your blessing at work among us. We offer ourselves and these gifts in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Closing Hymn

“Make Me a Channel of Your Peace”

  TFWS #2171

based on Matthew 6:12-15

The Blessing and Sending Forth

Pastor: You have heard the blessing of Jesus-not for the powerful alone but for the humble, the grieving, the longing, and the faithful.

People: We receive this blessing with grateful hearts.

Pastor: Go now as people shaped by the Beatitudes- seeking righteousness, practicing mercy, living with courage, humility, and peace.

People: We go to live as children of God in the world.

Pastor: May Christ's blessing rest upon you, may the Spirit guide your steps, and may God's love shine through your life.

People: Amen. We go in peace, to love, to serve, and to rejoice.
