Hello, Oregon Progressive Party members and supporters. Welcome to the latest of our monthly newsletters on what the Oregon Progressive Party is up to and other items of interest to the Oregon Progressive community.
Oregon Progressive Party joins Jewish Voice for Peace in letter to Portland City Council asking that they not extend the 5 year contract with G4S, which currently provides security guards at Portland City Hall. G4S is partial owner of Policity, the national police academy, which conducts what are known as "Deadly Exchanges": “bringing together police, IE, border patrol and FBI from the US with soldiers, police, border agents etc from Israel….to promote and extend discriminatory and repressive policing practices that already exist in both countries.”
Read the letter here. Contact the Portland City Council members to voice your support for this as well. Find them here.

Upcoming vote in Senate:
Note that the US Senate is expected to vote on their version of the National Defense Authorization Bill (SB2792) during this week. Please call Sen Wyden and Sen Merkley and ask that they both vote No, as they have in the past couple of years.

US Military pollutes Pacific NW Waters:
US Military world's largest environmental polluter. A news article in Truthout reports that "The US Plans to Dump 20,000 tons of Heavy Metals and Explosives Into the Oceans." And makes special note of plans to dump into Pacific Northwest waters:

"The 20,000 tons of contaminants the Navy plans to release into the ocean in the coming years do not include the additional 4.7 to 14 tons of “metals with potential toxicity” that will be “released” annually in the inland waters of both Puget Sound and Hood Canal, according to Naval documents. Given that those numbers are for one year only, in 20 years, between 94 and 280 tons of heavy metals will be released inland (in addition to what will be released in the open ocean)."

Call for OR Congressional delegation to conduct hearings on these outrageous actions by the US Military. The OR Progressive Party calls on Oregon's congressional delegation to push for Congressional hearings on the military's plans to pollute our Pacific NW waters as well as the waters of the world.

US approves $500 million "maintenance" agreement with Saudi Arabia

In spite of promise during his 2020 campaign to make Saudi Arabia the "pariah that it is" because of its human rights violations and its war on Yemen, President Biden has approved a $500 million maintenance contract for Saudi helicopters that have been used in the war on Yemen.

Peoples' Action to enact
campaign finance limits
available soon.
Sign up to help get this on Nov 2022 ballot.

Oregon voters clearly want effective limits on political campaign contributions and spending in Oregon elections.

Oregon Progressive Party and our allies at Honest Elections will file an initiative petition soon with the OR Secretary of State asking that Oregon Voters enact effective loophole-free limits on campaign contribution.

WE WILL NEED YOUR HELP getting this on the Nov 2022 ballot. Sign up here to help the OR Progressive Party help with the campaign gathering of signatures when the time comes.
Oregon People's Rebate
Could you use $750 annually for each of your family members?

Now you can sign the initiative petition to increase the Oregon Corporate Activities Tax and distribute the revenue to all OR residents equally. The OR People's Rebate estimates a rebate of $750/resident each year.

If we get to work on this now, we can have it on the Nov 2022 state ballot.

Click the button below to download, print, sign and mail a Single Signature sheet.

The initiative would increase the state corporate minimum tax on sales in Oregon of over $25 million per year and distribute the additional revenue raised to every bona fide Oregon resident. The campaign estimates that increase will support a individual rebate of $750 per person who resided in Oregon for at least 200 days during the prior year.
