Popup Update

Hey! There are only 10 more Pop-up days to Christmas!

That is 10 more days of 25% discounts on all my paintings either online or in person.

I made my first sale from the Manuka (Bougainville Street) Pop-up a couple of days ago. Canberrans' love affair with the far South Coast seems to strike a bell with my "Shore" Collection paintings which I call "Little Canberra by the Sea".

My customer was very happy with her Tura Beach Rockpool.

I have begun rotating some of the paintings at the pop-up and as of Friday four more paintings are on display (see below). I am also in discussion with another Real Estate agent for a second pop-up in Manuka to expand my Collection on display.

So far, 2 free "Life's a Beach" T-shirts have been distributed with sales – several more remain for those who purchase before Christmas.

Under the Boardwalk

This is the third time I have painted "Under the Boardwalk". The first version (A2 Framed) hung at a Canberra eatery "A Bite to Eat" and was purchased by an astute lady as a present for her husband.

A few weeks ago I was redrawn to the subject and produced a smaller A2 version and published it on my Facebook page. Amazingly, so far it has received 506 "likes" and a healthy serving of complimentary remarks! The other day I added it to my popup gallery in Manuka.

Spurred on by this attention I have now gone full throttle and have just finished a huge version - 30x40" in the old currency! This will be a keeper or sold at its real value rather than the giveaway prices of other works.

Wharfs (or is it wharves?) have long fascinated me. They can be particularly tricky for seagoing types in regions of Australia with huge tidal variations. Stories of boats hanging off the wharf as tides receded are well-known amongst matelots.

As First Lieutenant on a Patrol Boat, based at what was then HMAS TARANGAU on Manus Island, the wharf was a great place for fishing with the occasional baby saltwater croc coming in on the hook.

I have also painted the Merimbula Wharf twice and have my eye on Tathra Wharf as a future project. Gazing down into the clear deep water has a mesmerising effect on the viewer. I feel this interaction with the water is what appeals in my Boardwalk scenes.

Unbelievable!

The adjacent thumbnails' panel shows the paintings I have farewelled over the last 12 months or so. Most are sales, some are commissioned and a few are "Prizes" or donations to worthy causes.

48 "sales" with a bank balance that says, "no way!" The "economics" of art - see my last newsletter!

I live in a retirement village, and my home currently contains another 120 paintings. Another 21 adorn the walls of my dentist and the Manuka popup gallery!

It's a good job I enjoy painting!

Until Next time ...

I recently commented that my seventies had been my best decade "so far". As I approach 2026 in at 81 yo, the words in quotes may be percipient! My desire to paint continues unabated and I am also enjoying putting to use my communication and entrepreneurship skills (acquired through study in my seventies) in bringing my art into public focus.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and return rested and refreshed ready for what 2026 offers.

Cheers

David Kindon
