Get Started Now
If you have not completed the work or need additional information regarding the requirements, go to www.mofd.org/abatement-requirements.
Preparing your property is the first step. While one home prepared for wildfire is good, effective wildfire risk mitigations throughout the entire neighborhood are needed. Due to the network effect in developed areas, entire neighborhoods need to be ready for wildfire!
What Can You Do if Your Neighbor is Not Ready?
If you have completed your mitigations and notice a neighbor who has not, please take the time to educate them on the Fire District’s abatement requirements. Appointments for free, non-enforcement home assessments by community volunteers can be made here: www.mofd.org/FAC-A.
If education is not enough, concerns can be submitted via the MOFD website www.mofd.org/hazard-concern. The complaint will be documented and added to the list of parcels to be inspected. With over 14,000 parcels in the District, they are unable to inspect them all each year and appreciate your help educating neighbors.
If you have completed all required mitigations, please consider self-reporting compliance via https://www.mofd.org/how-do-i/submit/report-self-compliance-of-weed-hazard-abatement
More information regarding Fire Hazard Abatement is available in flyer form: www.mofd.org/abatement-requirements
If you have questions about mitigation, please email info@mofd.org or contact their fire prevention staff at 925-258-4599.

In partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation, all animals at Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) will be free to adopt during the month of July in an effort to clear kennel space as the county shelter reaches capacity. CCAS is also seeking qualified foster homes—specifically those that can accommodate large dog breeds—to help alleviate the current shelter population.
“We’ve reached a fever pitch,” said Ben Winkleblack, CCAS director. “With an already crowded shelter and an average daily intake of nearly 20 animals each day, we’re asking for the community’s help in getting as many pets out of the shelter as we possibly can through adoption and foster.”
CCAS currently has over 200 pets seeking permanent or temporary homes, including over 170 dogs.
Interested adopters and fosters can view CCAS’s available pets at www.ccasd.org, or meet them at the CCAS adoption center in Martinez. A $25 licensing fee may apply for pet adoptions.
CCAS Adoption Center 4800 Imhoff Pl., Martinez, CA 94553
Hours: Tuesday -Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM Wednesday 10 AM – 7 PM

BART has begun a project to replace 16 interlockings between MacArthur Station and 19th Street Station in Oakland. During construction, which will occur on irregular weekends throughout 2024, a free bus bridge will replace BART service between Rockridge, McArthur, and 19th Street stations. The current interlockings, which operate like interchanges between tracks, are more than 50 years old and in need of replacement.
Riders can expect delays of up to 40 minutes between these stations and less frequent service systemwide on work weekends. Work will occur between MacArthur and 19th Street BART stations one weekend a month, most months, through June 2026. The construction weekends in 2024 are as follows: August 17-18, September 21-22, October 19-20, and November 2-3, 2024.

-
For mental health resources, call the Contra Costa Crisis Center at 211 or 1-800-833-2900
Here are some additional resources:
A3 is the County’s new innovative approach to provide timely and appropriate mental and behavioral health crisis services to anyone, anywhere at anytime in the county. When someone is in a crisis — a fire, crime, or medical emergency — they call 911, expecting immediate emergency services. However, when that emergency is a mental or behavioral health crisis, the lack of a timely and clinically appropriate response too often results in unnecessary suffering, loss of life, criminalization, or incarceration. A3 addresses this critical need by making mental and behavioral health a pivotal part of the emergency response system-call 988.
