We have been celebrating Public Schools Week this week. This annual emphasis provides an opportunity to partner with educators, parents, and community members here at home and across the nation to celebrate all that is good about public schools.

There is a lot to celebrate in Avon Schools!

I want to introduce you to four incredible students - young people who give us all yet another reason to be #PublicSchoolsProud. Avon High School seniors Sriya Koganti, Jason Le, Adam Schenk, and Alicja Stoppel are National Merit Finalists! This is an impressive achievement. These students have worked incredibly hard and we congratulate them. In addition to being the product of their hard work and the support of their families and loved ones, they are also the product of dedicated Avon educators.

Sriya said it well during a recent podcast episode: "Faculty here are truly family. ... They'll listen to you. They'll take care of you. And, they'll make sure you're OK. It's not just, 'I'm your teacher and I'm going to teach.' It's, 'I'm your teacher but I'm also here for you.' And that's what I truly appreciate."

I'm proud of these four students as well as our entire student body. I'm proud of our staff who have invested in these students and thousands more. I'm #ACSCProud and I'm proud to be your superintendent!

2021-22 Preschool Registration

Seedlings registration for the 2021-22 school year opens to the community at 6 am on Monday, March 1. We anticipate that the program will fill up quickly so reserve your spot in line by submitting the form as soon as the link goes live on Monday morning.
Orioles In-The-Know

In the latest episode of the Orioles In-The-Know podcast, Dr. Wyndham talks with Karie Mize and Lori Carmichael-Howell about the plans and preparations underway for the July 2021 opening of the White Oak Early Learning Center.
2021-22 Kindergarten Registration
On March 1, families will be able to access the online enrollment portal to register children for kindergarten. Online registration is the first step when signing up for kindergarten, and this can be done by visiting avon-schools.org, clicking the 'enrollment' tab, and following the instructions. Contact your child's school for assistance.
River Birch Students Lead with Love
Each year, River Birch Elementary celebrates Valentine's Day with Leading With Love Week. Art Teacher Stephanie Emenhiser and her students created bracelets for healthcare workers at Hendricks Regional Hospital. River Birch students also sent Valentine's cards to nursing home residents, performed random acts of kindness, recycled trash, and more. Way to lead with love, River Birch!

The View from the 'Classroom'
Avon Intermediate School West teachers Katie Speidel and McKenzie Byers blogged about their respective experiences teaching in-person learners and e-learners during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their perspectives highlight the investments educators are making to support all students.
Attention Spring Break Travelers
The Hendricks County Health Department has shared new guidance. For anyone traveling abroad, they recommend a 7-day quarantine for those who test negative on days 3-5 after returning and a 10-day quarantine for those who forego testing. Avon Schools will require returning international travelers to adhere to these guidelines. Please plan accordingly.
