When we decided it was time for us retirees to get a German Shepherd Dog, we contacted GSRNC. This was in the day that we could have meet and greet sessions. The dog we were most interested in was already chosen, and the person fostering Daisy said, "I think this dog would be a match for you. She is 4 years old, but she does have hip dysplasia".
What a beautiful and sweet dog she was, and I thought, "I can love a dog with hip dysplasia." We had so much fun. Dog school, beach time, playing at the dog park, Daisy was such a joy. We had her for 7 years, and it would have been longer, but she was unfortunate in that she also had a genetic disease called Degenerative Myelopathy. It didn't slow her down much, especially when we got the wheelchair which she used for more than a year. Daisy was always game to play, and she loved puppies.
It is such a blessing to be part of these wonderful dog's lives. Thanks so much to you and all the work you do as volunteers!
