Avoid a Parking Ticket!
Please remember to put your purple parking pass on your rearview mirror when parking in our lot at 540 Arapeen Drive. Beginning this week, we will begin ticketing cars without parking permits. This helps keep other tenants of Research Park out of our free parking lot. If you still need a parking pass, please ask an Osher team member or our registration team at the desk on the second floor. Note: These passes are only good in our lot, not on main campus. Thank you!

In the dark heart of Victorian-era London, Sweeney Todd, a wrongly exiled barber, seeks retribution against the lecherous Judge Turpin, the architect of his ruin. With a razor-sharp thirst for vengeance, Todd's path converges with the cunning pie shop owner Mrs. Lovett. The relentless pursuit of justice takes a turn as Todd's razor weaves a chilling narrative. Kevin Nakatani and Carol Anderson will introduce this operatic cautionary tale with social perspective, creator biographies, musical highlights, and focused discussion on the sometimes-controversial intersection of opera and musical theatre. Attendees will have the option to visit a working rehearsal after the class, and will be offered a discount code for ticket purchases.

When Hitler and the Nazis rose to power in the 1930s, it became evident to Jews across Europe that their civil and religious rights would soon be in serious peril. About 5,000 Jews ended up in Ecuador as their haven in the storm. Many of them thrived and made lives there, even though they could leave once WWII ended. Even American Jews were unaware of this tiny Jewish community and its many contributions to their adopted county. Doris Rubenstein was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador from 1971–73 and was fascinated to learn about this outpost of Jews.

Historical novels tell interesting stories about a time and place and the people living there. The authors of these novels must do extensive research so that their writing accurately reflects the history of the period. Using The Women by Kristin Hannah as the launching point, this class will offer a one-hour look at the history of the Vietnam War-both in-country and on the home front-to provide the historical context for the novel. We will then spend an hour discussing the novel as a piece of contemporary literature. Readers and history buffs welcome! Participants should read The Women before class.

Come learn about a new recovery process of claiming household “wet” garbage for energy use as fuel. Wasatch Resource Recovery is Utah’s first and only anaerobic digester dedicated to food waste diversion. The facility processes organic waste which includes food scraps, liquid waste, and manufacturing food waste. The process will turn the organic matter into sustainable resources – biogas and bio-based fertilizer. They can process food waste from restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, caterers, breweries, food processing-manufacturing plants, cafeterias, hospitals, schools, universities, glass bottled / aluminum canned / plastic bottled beverage sellers or distributors, and more. Amazing!

You're invited to tour the beautiful Utah State Capitol! During the tour you will not only learn about the many beautiful spaces in the building but you will also discover exciting opportunities to become a volunteer docent. For nearly a century, the State Capitol has been one of Utah's most prominent landmarks. Designed by local architect Richard K. A. Kletting, the Capitol has been home to state government since its opening in 1916. From 2004 to 2008, the Utah State Capitol underwent one of the largest historical preservation projects in the United States. In addition to safe-guarding the building against the risk of an earthquake, the project also repaired and restored the original beauty and artwork of the Capitol. Each year, thousands of people visit the Capitol to witness its modern magnificence and historic significance.
