Global Accessibility Awareness Day
Every user deserves a first-rate digital experience on the web. Someone with a disability must be able to experience web-based services, content and other digital products with the same successful outcome as those without disabilities. This awareness and commitment to inclusion is the goal of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), a global event that shines a light on digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities.
Thursday, May 20, 2021, is the tenth Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)! The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and the more than One Billion people with disabilities/impairments.

When a digital experience is accessible, it is better for all people, not just people with disabilities. These people – Marc, Nyke, Stef, Juan – combine to elucidate where we are and how far we’ve got to go to make an inclusive and accessible digital world. We created this mini-documentary video to introduce you to the people that are most impacted by inaccessible experiences.

Meet OVI's
Director of Operations
Since 2016, Julie Kuhns has acted as Osprey Village’s Director of Operations. Moving from Northeast Ohio in 2012, Kuhns has a Master’s degree in Health Risk Analysis. When Osprey Village committed to state contracts in healthcare services, Kuhns stepped in to facilitate and manage the operation.
“The problem with this area is a severe lack of healthcare providers to truly support Freedom of Choice. For many different reasons, our region lags behind the state and the country when it comes to solutions for basic rights for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”
Kuhns manages our multi county contract to provide supportive services and directs operations funded through grant opportunities.
To her credit, she has over 20 years experience in capital projects, community programs and government relations in eight states nationwide.
Outside of work, Kuhns is an avid traveler. She admits that of the places she’s lived and roamed, Cleveland is still her favorite city. “It’s just too cold,” she jokes.
She is also an obsessive reader. One of Julie’s favorite publications is The Bluff, a quarterly publication from Palmetto Bluff. “The vibe of that quarterly magazine is quintessential Lowcountry.”
If you’re ever in our Okatie store on Tuesdays, you’re guaranteed to run into Julie...she promises she’s there to work, but she admits she’s addicted to our stores. “Thank goodness for the employee discount or I’d be broke!” she said.

We Wish to Thank...
and inform you about an exercise program for the developmentally disabled.
In 2014, Jamison Consultants—a community mental health center—partnered with Reebok CrossFit of Coastal Carolina to respond to a growing public health concern.
Persons with disabilities were at high risk of obesity with little to no access to consistent fitness.
Jamison partnered OVI's Director of Operations, Julie Kuhns with Reebok Program Director, Guy Renew to devise—not only an effective fitness program — but, also, transportation and supports. Jamison Consultants fully funded this project for two years while the CrossFit Exceptional team devised an affordable membership program to sustain the program indefinitely.
And...it worked. Last month celebrated 7 years of CrossFit Exceptional.
This program has served over 20 individuals, holds an annual fundraiser and continues to find ways to share the program with others.Today (and for the past 3 years) under the direction of Reebok CrossFit of Coastal Carolina’s head coach, Whitney Rolf, CrossFit Exceptional runs two days per week and accepts open enrollment.
This specially designed exercise program serves the fitness needs of adult developmentally disabled members of our community. Classes include partner exercises, group activities, and individual workouts at a pace allowing for plenty of extra time for answering questions and reviewing homework assignments. Exercises are “functional” movements that are helpful with the activities everyone finds in everyday life.
Jamison Consultants, LLC is an Integrative Health Center that is dedicated to providing clients with a wide spectrum of health services that have helped so many children, adolescents, teens, and adults enhance their quality of life. Serving so many populations in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, including many individuals in medically underserved areas, Jamison is committed to providing an important option for individuals to have access to a number of needed health services.
We are a licensed provider with South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Helping children, adolescents, couples and families enhance their lives through integrated healthcare services. With convenient locations, we provide services throughout South Carolina and Georgia, with outpatient physical and behavioral health services that focus on the individual – not the illness – and can help turn lives around.
