PSAC - AFPS Strike - Impact on Businesses | |
Statement from Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Ottawa Board of Trade.
“This is the last thing our economy, Canadian businesses, or Canadians need right now. These work stoppages are a significant blow to our economy, as well as the businesses that serve as the backbone of communities across the country. We respect the right to collective bargaining, but if it’s collective prosperity we’re looking for, this isn’t the way to achieve it. Canada needs to stay open for business, and all parties need to come together to ensure that happens.”
~ Perrin Beatty, President & CEO, Canadian Chamber of Commerce
"As we near the end of day two of the PSAC-AFPS strike, we stand with our Canadian Chamber colleagues and our business community to call on all parties for a swift resolution to the ongoing labour disruptions. We will continue to work with our national Chamber network to closely monitor and minimize any impact the strike may have on our local businesses as the situation evolves."
~ Sueling Ching, President & CEO, Ottawa Board of Trade

Women, Wine & Wisdom: Being Bold
The pandemic had a disproportionate impact on women and reminded us all of the systemic ways in which our businesses, communities, family dynamics, governments and our social networks are designed to place undue burden on women.
We know, that when women participate fully, they are more likely to develop inclusive and sustainable solutions. Further, McKinsey research tells us that companies in the top quartile for gender diversity on executive teams are 25% more likely to have above-average profitability than companies in the bottom, while companies with more than 30% female executives were more likely to outperform companies that don’t.
And yet, our post pandemic our trajectory to equality has not just stalled but declined. Progress is being eroded. Bold moves are required.
Join the Ottawa Board of Trade and Ottawa Business Journal for our first Women, Wine, & Wisdom of 2023: Being Bold. We will hear from three local women who dare to be bold: Jenna Sudds, MP for Kanata-Carleton, Solange Tuyishime, President and CEO of Elevate International, and Priya Bhaloo, COO of TAG HR.
Join us at the beautiful Brookstreet Hotel for an evening designed to create connections, encourage candid conversations, and leave our guests inspired. Enjoy a gourmet dinner, share real stories and be inspired by powerful women.
Registration Now Open!
Everyone welcome.
