Validating Ounce Equivalent Portion Sizes During A Monitoring Review
If you serve a grain that is on the ounce equivalents measuring chart (aka cheat sheet) be sure to serve the quantity shown on the chart. If you serve a grain that is not listed on the chart, you will need to calculate the amount to serve by following the instructions for Using The Nutrition Fact Labels shown at the back of the measuring chart cheat sheet or you can use the electronic calculator available in the Food Buying Guide. If you have to calculate the amount to be served you will need the nutrition label from the grain product. Be sure to save that label until after the meal is over so it is available for Karamu or CACFP officials to calculate the portion sizes if we come in (either physically or remotely) to review the meal before the meal service ends.
