2022 SUMMER NEWSLETTER

A NOTE FROM HEIDI HENDERSON

PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Earlier this summer we had the pleasure of reintroducing ourselves as Access Justice Brooklyn – a name that reflects our vision of an equitable Brooklyn where everyone knows their rights and has access to legal support. Our new brand and brand strategy positions us to better serve our clients and support our volunteers and highlights the role that everyone has in ensuring that the justice system is accessible to all.

Many Brooklynites are struggling to navigate a post-pandemic New York City as we continue to see an increase in housing and consumer debt related scams and a severe backlog in family court. Today’s harsh legal and economic realities disproportionately affect our Brooklyn neighbors with low incomes, especially those in marginalized communities. We are meeting with clients in our office with continued remote opportunities to protect the health and safety for everyone, sharing critical legal resources available on our website, and increasing our education and outreach efforts throughout the borough.

As legal advocates for our community, Access Justice Brooklyn is committed to remaining present and accessible to our neighbors in need. For over 32 years, our small staff and dedicated volunteers have helped close the gap in legal resources and representation in Brooklyn. We have always been – and always will be – a pioneer of contemporary pro bono models and a progressive force in the community.

Everyone, whether an attorney or not, can help expand access to the legal system and realize a vision of justice for all. Click here to learn how you can take action today.
