Community Outreach - SoCal Gas / OCSPCS

SoCal Gas Outreach

In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, we continued our partnership with SoCal Gas.

At 113 outreach events, our Promotores connected with 3,823 community members throughout the county. They shared information about various assistance programs offered by SoCal Gas, including the California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program, the Medical Baseline Allowance Program, and energy-efficient home upgrades, among others.

Our Promotoras strategically chose their outreach locations to maximize their chances of connecting with community members in need of resources. They conducted outreach in food markets, bakeries, food banks, parks, and radio interviews, with the goal of meeting the community where they are.

Through the efforts of the Promotores, we reached a total of 1,883 people at 118 outreach events.

Community Health Worker/Promotores (CHW/Ps) Listening Sessions with the Department of Health Care Access and Information and Promotor Legislative Action Day

Through our collaboration with the Central Coast Community Health Worker/Promotores Tri-Counties (Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo) Collaborative, led by the Santa Barbara Foundation, the Promotores Collaborative was able to co-host a listening session with the Department of Health Care Access and Information. The session focused on CHW/P state certification guidelines and the workforce.

In October 2025, our collaborative hosted the listening session, gathering 30 CHW/Ps from various agencies serving San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. The CHW/Ps shared their thoughts on the current state of the CHW/P workforce with the Department of Social Services and the Department of Health Care Access and Information and gave input on which certification requirements the state should consider.

Additionally, in May 2025, our team had the opportunity to join Vision Y Compromiso and other Promotores organizations at our state capitol for the Promotores Legislative Day of Action. There, we advocated for policies that would advance the CHW/P workforce, including medical coverage for CHW/Ps.

We received a total of 348 Mixteco interpretations through our community partners at the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education, the San Luis Obispo Legal Assistance Foundation, the Lumina Alliance, the Paso Robles and San Miguel Joint Union School Districts, the San Luis Obispo County Probation Department, the San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department, the Willshire Community Services Department, and the Child Advocacy Center.

In total, we supported 1,001 Mixteco speakers with these services.

The Promotoras of San Luis Obispo County look forward to providing linguistically and culturally relevant support to our Spanish- and Mixteco-speaking communities in the upcoming fiscal year.
