In Mid-February, we kicked off our 2026 Economic Development and Empowerment Program with 36 new girls - 19 from Easton Middle School and 17 from St. Michaels Middle High School. This is the largest class in the history of the Foundation of HOPE, and we are already so impressed with this group of young ladies!
Our first few weeks have focused on self-esteem and self-care. Our girls got some practice in public speaking when they introduced themselves to their classmates during our "Who Am I?" module. Keasha taught them how to evaluate themselves and their plans using a SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats).
Nutritionist Alice Lloyd visited to teach the girls about how the right foods fuel our bodies and minds so we can be our very best. The girls had the opportunity to put the lesson into action by making their own nutritious trail mix - a hands-on (and delicious) way to explore healthy choices.
Stephanie from the Talbot County Health Department also came in to speak with the girls about the importance of saying no to drugs and alcohol. Through an engaging and thoughtful discussion, Stephanie shared information about how substance abuse can impact physical health, decision-making, and future goals. She encouraged the girls to build confidence in their choices, practice healthy coping skills, and surround themselves with supportive people.
There is so much more to come as we continue on through our program. Tune in to our Facebook page for weekly updates on the girls' progress!
