National Volunteer Week (NVW) is April 24-30, 2022, a week to recognize and thank BCC volunteers for the time and energy they provide to help people affected by bladder cancer.

The National Volunteer Week theme for 2022, Volunteering is Empathy in Action, affirms the strong connection between volunteerism and empathy. This profoundly human connection is at the heart of strong communities. From coast to coast to coast in formal and informal settings, volunteers work to create caring, collaborative, and compassionate communities.

During National Volunteer Week, we celebrate all our volunteers whose empathy and generosity help connect people to the larger bladder cancer community in Canada.

Make sure you check out our social media sites next week to hear stories and learn more about the amazing contributions our volunteers make!
Become a BCC Volunteer
Bladder Cancer Canada is so grateful for our volunteers! We are always looking for more volunteers to join us as One2One Peer Support Volunteers, Support Group Facilitators and Walk Leads.

  4. Volunteer Coordinator – Help recruit and engage volunteers in your region (Atlantic, Prairies or Northern Territories still needed)

Welcome to our GTA support group
Bladder Cancer Canada is proud to introduce a new Support Group in the GTA!

A huge thank you to Martin Vaughan & Peter Aikins who will be co-hosting this new virtual group.
BCC support groups serve as welcoming and non-judgmental platforms in which bladder cancer patients and caregivers can share their worries, challenges and questions with others who have been in their shoes. Bladder Cancer Canada is fortunate to have committed and compassionate volunteers facilitating groups in several Canadian communities.
For more information about our support groups visit bladdercancercanada.org.

If you would like to attend the GTA Support Group Meeting on April 25, please email info@bladdercancercanada.org for the Zoom link.
Help us help others
At BCC, patient support is a cornerstone of our mission and that includes understanding the evolving needs of our community. We’re looking for bladder cancer patients and caregivers to complete our Patient Insight Survey to ensure we are supporting patients in the best way possible. Please take 10-15 minutes to complete our survey today.

To participate in the survey, please click here or on the image below.

Thank you for your time!
Upcoming Webinar
We are happy to announce our next webinar session for bladder cancer patients and their support teams! Join us on Tuesday, May 24 at 7pm ET for a webinar on Immunotherapy. We are pleased to welcome our speaker Dr. Aly-Khan A. Lalani, Assistant Professor at McMaster University, Medical Oncologist at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and an active member of the BCC Medical Advisory Committee.

To register for this session, please email info@bladdercancercanada.org.
Plan a walk in your city
This year, Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer aims to engage more patients, family and friends, raise more funds for research and patient support, and represent more communities across Canada.
We need your leadership to help us reach these goals.

We are looking for volunteers to join us as a Walk Lead and support us in growing this year's walk on September 24 & 25. Together, we can have participants walking in every city across Canada.

Walk Leads organize and execute a walk in their own community, recruit volunteers to help in the planning process, promote the event and ensure everything runs smoothly on event day.

Please email Theresa Blondin, our Manager of Volunteers and Community Programming at theresab@bladdercancercanada.org to let us know if you’re able to join us as a volunteer this year, either as a Walk Lead or an event day volunteer.
Congratulations to our award-winning volunteers
Congratulations to the Dalhousie Bladder Cancer Awareness Society! These amazing students focus on raising funds and awareness among their student body, and their hard work has not gone unnoticed. They received the Most Impactful/Charitable Community Society at the 2021/2022 Dalhousie Impact Awards

This award is presented to a student society that has made a significant contribution to a charitable cause, within the Dalhousie community or beyond. To receive this award, students must have “demonstrated consistency in planning and delivery of programming or events, high student participation and attendance of its membership, and sets an example for other student societies.”
“I joined the society during my first year because I was passionate about the cause, but the people I've met and their dedication and selflessness has made these past four years incredibly memorable and successful,” says Sohiba Muhammad, President of the DalBCAS says, seen above holding the award. “Despite COVID, we compromised and came up with new initiatives to continue to raise awareness and money towards Bladder Cancer Canada!”

Check out their Instagram (@dalbcas) for photos! Thank you for all that you do and congrats from all of us at Bladder Cancer Canada.
