August 2019 | Washington Commons
Here's What We Are Talking About This Month:
West Sacramento is Making Others Jealous
The July 28 Sacramento Bee said “West Sacramento is making others jealous.

The city appears on track to become the most modern city in the region in the next decade, as it develops its waterfront into a walkable, European-style addition to downtown Sacramento.

Plans include community gardens, dense housing and offices, new bridges across the river, community rideshare programs and urban rail transit crossing the river.“ We’re excited to be a part of the action

Our Design Process Involves Everyone
As a collaborative group of homeowners, one of our favorite parts of the cohousing process has been our design workshops. During these workshops we get hands-on with our professional team to collaboratively design what our ideal community will look like.

During our first design workshop we looked at our site layout, and how our building will fit onto the land and interact with the surrounding neighborhood.

Our second workshop centered around the idea of common areas. We discussed creating shared spaces in which we can enjoy group activities, use space more efficiently, and save energy.

Our third workshops will take place on August 17 and 18, and we will be discussing the design of our individual homes. We will be spending two days detailing the layouts for 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units.

If you like the idea of hand crafting your future home and neighborhood, collaborating with other homeowners, and participating in community life, now is the time to become a Washington Commons member.

Thank you to our professional team, Katie McCamant of CoHousing Solutions, Urban Development + Partners (UD+P) of Portland, Oregon, Mahlum Architects and M F Architects of Portland, Oregon. And to our host communities, Southside Cohousing and Muir Commons for facilitating these amazing workshops!
