Goal for 2020: Blankets for 25,000 Children in Foster Care

Together we can do it, one blanket at a time! Current number:  5,938

The My Very Own Blanket workshop is now OPEN to bring blankets of love, comfort and hope to children in foster care. Here is how you can help us do just that!

  • Order blanket kits online here. Use our "curbside" pick up and drop off bin just outside our Blanket Workshop, or come into the workshop to safely receive your blankets!

  • Drop off your quilted, crocheted and knitted blankets in the donation bin outside our workshop, or come inside if you wish.

  • Not local to Central Ohio? Sponsor our "no-sew" blanket kits online to have them sent to you. We will help you get in contact with your local children's services to deliver to kids in care in your area!

  • Volunteer. If you would like to come and volunteer, we support social distancing, wearing a mask and sanitizing any items that have been used during your time with us.
Dancers make 165 blankets while social distancing!
Generations Performing Arts Center in Westerville holds a large scale blanket-making event for us every year. You can see from the photo that they were still determined to make the event happen this year, despite COVID-19 and social distancing. They also had lots of dancers working from home to make blankets on a large scale Zoom call.

Great job, Generations staff and students!
Bake sale funds 22 blankets
Employees in the Columbus office of ORC Real Estate held a bake sale in December and with the money raised, sponsored 22 blanket kits.

Employees got together over lunch on two occasions in February to complete the blankets. Many thanks to these Blanket Angels!
Blanket Angel Exceeds Facebook Challenge!
Jessica Rudolph (left) with Amanda and this year's
blankets.
Our blanket angel Amanda dropped off 102 blankets that she made in recognition of National Foster Care month in May.

For the past few years, she has reached out to Facebook friends and family to help by sponsoring blankets for her to make. Her goal was a blanket a day in May, and she has far exceeded that goal with a total of 243 blankets over three years. Thanks, Amanda!
We challenge you to ask your Facebook family and friends to sponsor a "blanket a day" to make during a month this summer. It's super easy and fun to do, all while giving LOVE to children in foster care! Contact [email protected] for more information.
Thank you for the blanket
Since we seldom have contact with the young people who receive the blankets made by our blanket angels, we were touched to receive this gracious note on our website from a young woman who received "her very own" blanket through MVOB:

Hello, my name is Jasmine and I just received a blanket handmade by a woman named Mary P. I just wanted to reach out and say thank you to this woman. This blanket is remarkable, the crochet patterns are so unique yet giving a simple outcome. Again thank you very much. I appreciate it.

NOTE: The photo isn't Jasmine but is representative of the young people who receive blankets.
A “fostering family” shares practical insight
“I am passionate about foster care and I am passionate about cultivating a family life in which everyone flourishes,” writes Christy Krispin on her website, A Fostered Life .

Christy and her husband have been licensed foster parents since 2013. She shares real-world insights and a wealth of resources on the website, also featuring a blog and videos.

In 2019 Christy created an online community for foster parents and those in the licensing process, The Flourishing Foster Parent .
A Fostered Life provides a valuable resource to foster families, and those who are considering it, by sharing knowledge gained by experience and a passion for foster care.
Blanket Angel Snapshots
Kristen posted this photo on our FB page of four NW Ohio CASA volunteers who had a great afternoon recently, making fleece blankets. Thanks, ladies!
Blanket delivery to Lucas County, Ohio Children's Services in March. Thank you, Rotarians!
We received this collection of 11 beautiful quilts from Blanket Angel Debbie. She told us that she pieced them while in Florida last winter. We are thankful for Debbie and all of the quilters who share their awesome work with us.
