Staff Development Day Features Education Technology Expert
"How has education changed in the last 100 years?" Integrating technology and education was the theme of the District’s staff development day on February 15.

Teachers could choose from over twenty sessions, at least half of which bolstered digital practices. Ted Lai, an Education Development Executive with Apple, gave the morning presentation.

4th Graders Capture Presentations to Review & Send Home
Elementary classes across the district are moving technology from the computer lab into the classroom; meeting students at the moment of discovery and supporting their self-expression and reflection.

Fourth graders at Increase Miller Elementary School recorded each other’s Living Wax Museum performances using the Seesaw app on school-provided iPads.

New Work Spaces and Tools Support Creative Expression
The District has taken advantage of New York State’s Smart Schools Bond Act to improve network infrastructure and provide teachers and students with devices that support new technologies.

The “Tech Commons” in John Jay Middle School’s library integrates these advancements. Sixth graders recently visited to learn about digital storytelling.

Robotics Builds Tech-Competence
Robotics provides students with deep interactions with technology; utilizing specific software and building on and developing mechanical, electrical, and computer programming skills.

This February, both John Jay robotics teams advanced to the final rounds of the FIRST Tech Challenge regional championship!
