Connects
Our Connection. My Why.
We’ve been talking a lot about connections at Rainbow Days lately. After all, it’s a part of the name in every facilitator manual we’ve developed as well as divisional names within our organization. Brené Brown says it well, "Connection is why we're here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives."

We show a video, Resiliency, when talking about resiliency in our trainings and workshops. It asks a great question, "What is your why?" It can be a tough question for some of us. We may realize our why from an early age, or it can take us realizing our own identities during our 20's and 30's, while others take even longer. There is no set time. For some of us it is an "aha" moment. For others it is how we bounce forward from a childhood full of adversity and trauma to make us into the resilient person we are today. There is no right and wrong when it comes to our why, and our why can change as we mature. However, we must realize it. It is what gets us out of bed in the morning.

My why is you! As Rita Pierson says in her "why" TED Talk, Every Child Needs a Champion, "It is the relationship; it is the connection that makes the difference." You: coworkers, colleagues, fellow trainers, those I train, you inspire, encourage, and support. You are my why. You are the reason I get up every morning. Fred Rogers says it well. Your passion, concern, dedication, and heart for those you serve radiate through our interactions. In turn, it is that precise energy which propels me to do the work I do. You are important and you help others see their importance. Their worth. Their value. These are lifelong gems and gifts you share with those with which you meet and work. You are a trajectory-changer. A fork in the road. A seed planter. From a substance misuse/use prevention viewpoint, this next quote sums up our roles nicely, "There simply is no pill that can replace human connection. There is no pharmacy that can fill the need for compassionate interaction with others. There is no panacea. The answer to human suffering is both within us and between us."  ~ Dr. Joanne Cacciatore

Ah, so perhaps, Human Connection + Compassionate Interaction = The End of Human Suffering.
I know many of you do the work you do because of relational connections. I encourage you to spend time defining your why. And, to be a why-shaker; helping those around you to define theirs. This quote captures my thoughts and heart on the subject of relationships and connections, "Deep human connection is ... the purpose and the result of a meaningful life - and it will inspire the most amazing acts of love, generosity, and humanity." ~ Melinda Gates

Love, generosity, humanity, you share them all. Thank you!

Laughing Through the Tears
Thursday, October 1, 2020 9AM-12PM
Register - cost is $40 - 3 CEs available

Have you ever heard the phrase, “nothing a good cry wouldn’t help?” Or consider this quote, “Laughing is literally the cheapest form of therapy and by far the most pleasant one. It has the power to heal not only your soul, but also your body.”

What is it about laughter and crying and how they cleanse the soul?

"Both tears and giggles provide a natural emotional and biological reset. There is a physiological explanation for the cathartic experience you get from a good laugh or a good cry, and both offer a whole range of benefits, from increased immunity to a flood of feel-good hormones."

Let’s come together and explore the mental and behavioral health benefits of laughing and crying. Afterall, what is better for self-care than truly feeling our feelings?
