DPS Board of Education: Important Updates for November Public Comment
Public Comment scheduled for the Public Comment and Progress Monitoring Session on Monday, Nov. 14 will now be dedicated to speakers commenting on the Superintendent’s proposal to unify 10 elementary and middle schools addressing declining enrollment. Registration will open on Monday, Nov. 7 and close on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. Speakers can choose to participate in person or virtually. Please note that once you sign up for either in-person or virtual participation, your selection cannot be changed. As a reminder, no speaker substitutions are allowed.
To accommodate speakers who wish to share comments on issues unrelated to the unification proposal, a Special Public Comment has been added to the Board’s scheduled Special Board Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Registration for Special Public Comment at the Nov. 29 meeting will open on Nov. 22 and close on Nov. 25 at 5 p.m.
Apply to Join the 2020 Bond Oversight Committee
We are accepting applications for our 2020 Bond Oversight Committee now through Nov. 25! Consisting of community members appointed by the superintendent, this committee monitors and advises the school district in the effective, efficient and appropriate use of general obligation bond funds approved by Denver voters in 2020. DPS Celebrates Dia De Los Muertos
Earlier this week, DPS celebrated Dia de los Muertos -- a celebration honoring the lives and memories of deceased loved ones.
Students at North High School created altars to remember their loved ones and enjoyed a performance from the North High Mariachi Band. Watch the North High celebration.
Skinner Middle School students participated in a cultural presentation to the community about what Dia de los Muertos is, and gathered the neighborhood in a candle vigil for their loved ones. Watch a recap of the Skinner Middle School presentation and vigil here.
Montclair Hosts ‘Parade of Masks’ Event
Montclair School of Academics & Enrichment’s "Parade of Masks'' is a unique way to celebrate the many cultural events that take place around this time of year and has been a long-time, inclusive community tradition. Watch the video to see all the beautiful masks students designed based on this year's theme, "Under the Sea.”
Manual High School Hosts Safety Resource Fair
Last week, DPS hosted a Safety Resource Fair for all students at Manual High School. DPS was joined by our safety partners who help us keep our scholars safe in and outside of the buildings. Did you know DPS students across the district can apply to the Common Black College Application (CBCA)? The CBCA allows students to apply to 67 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Watch this video to learn more!
CHSAA Offering Incentives for New Sports Officials
Think you look good in stripes? The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) is looking for officials for all sports. Anyone interested in becoming an official can simply follow this link and fill out this five-question form. The staff at CHSAA will send your contact information to sport-specific area directors, who will reach out with details of training, meetings, procedures and requirements.
