Watch the Ceylon Elementary Groundbreaking
This week, Colorado Governor Jared Polis, Superintendent Dr. Alex Marrero, DPS leadership, and our Board of Education joined Swinerton Construction, DLR architect group and DPS families in a groundbreaking celebration commemorating the beginning stages of construction on our Ceylon Campus. Ceylon Campus is a new project, voted on and passed through the 2020 Bond cycle. Ceylon will be an ECE-8 school, and it is located in a rapidly growing community in the Far Northeast of Denver. Ceylon hopes to serve this community well, with innovative classroom spaces and a STEAM model of education, with an emphasis on Project Based Learning.

Ceylon will open its doors to students beginning on Aug. 19, 2024. When it opens, it will serve ECE- through second-grade students, with one grade added per year. Families can apply through SchoolChoice during the first round window of the 2024-25 year.

Watch our video recap of this important day, and hear more from our distinguished guest speakers about this exciting project.

DPS Teacher Publishes Children's Book about Mental Health
Congratulations to Place Bridge Academy teacher, Kaylan Robinson, for publishing a children’s book! “Finding Self Love” is the first children’s book that teaches kids about the value of loving themselves. The book features characters of color and teaches that mental health is wealth and is the foundation for breaking generational barriers.

“Finding Self Love” is an enlightening story that follows a girl who finds the purest love she’s ever known! She learns to love who she is while becoming the best person she can be. She is surprised to find that love for herself always shows up when she needs it the most.

“Finding Self Love” is available for purchase on Amazon.

Justin Simmons Visits Green Valley Elementary After Donating Playground
Denver Broncos safety, Justin Simmons, spent the day at Green Valley Elementary having fun with students and celebrating the donation of their new playground! Simmons, who has played seven seasons with the Broncos, took the time to visit students in their classrooms, raced against students in an obstacle course, served lunch in the cafeteria and spoke to Student Council members about his career while answering questions.

“I’m really thankful just to be able to come and hang out and spend a little bit of time because you know it means the world in both worlds -- in mine and in theirs,” says Simmons.
