Where do you find the sacred?

I once heard Carlos Nakai say “The only holy ground is the ground upon which you stand,” and I took it mean that when we are open to the wonder, beauty and meaning of everyday things that relationship consecrates all of creation.

Here, I am awestruck every day by the sanctity of this space, the holiness of this ground, and I’m coming to believe that it’s part of what makes the Christine Center a place where so many seekers find what they need. Welcoming people of all faiths, or no faith, isn’t just our official mission and isn’t just our way of life, it’s a spirit that I can feel rising from the dirt, falling from the sky, and blowing through the trees.

I’m sometimes asked what the center is, and my impulse is to reply “an opportunity.” We offer an opportunity to be safe and supported while you explore, question, and seek. For me, the Earth, the flora, the fauna are sacred and it’s in their embrace that both peace and inspiration find me. You may find it in other ways, through other means, with other words, and that’s not just OK, it’s perfect.

Maybe it’s a matter of what we give our attention to, a matter of how and where we look for the sacred. Maybe it’s how we choose to experience life and the world around us. Maybe that’s what Jesus meant when he said “…blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. Our mission is to create an opportunity for you to seek, tune into, experience, see, and hear that which you need.

From the cosmic and eternal to the basic and fleeting, the sacred is available to us if only we can see and hear it. Join us here at the Christine Center and open yourself to the sacred. You are safe; you are welcome.
