This year, for the first time in its nearly 30-year history, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey added an executive director. 

 "Aspire Challenge"

About the Challenge: 

The Aspire Challenge is a prize competition conducted under the America Competes Act. The objective of this competition is to spur the development and provision of innovative entrepreneurial development and access to capital resources for formerly incarcerated individuals or those who are non-violent ex-offenders.

The submission period for entries will begin on December 29, 2016 and close on February 12, 2017. The SBA anticipates that winners will be announced no later than March 14, 2017.
  • Submission Dates: 8 a.m. ET, Dec 29, 2016 - 11:59 p.m. ET, Feb 12, 2017
  • Judging Dates: Feb 13, 2017 - Mar 10, 2017
  • Winners Announced: Mar 14, 2017


 Through the Aspire Challenge, the SBA will award up to 16 awards of up to $75,000 each.

December 9, 2016, TRENTON – The Council of New Jersey Grantmakers (CNJG), the statewide association serving corporate and private philanthropy announced the election of Jonathan R. Pearson of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and Horizon Foundation for New Jersey as its new Chairman. 

Small, Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise Program 

The program is designed to assist small businesses, especially those in construction, to initiate, fortify and advance relationships with established general contractors who coordinate and build school construction projects for the SDA.

The program entails a meeting once every week for eight weeks in Trenton and Newark.

The 2017 programs will begin on  March 21 (Trenton) or March 22 (Newark).
