The very first expedition to Guatemala in 2013.

The FINAL Guatemala Expedition

Family Humanitarian’s Journey in Guatemala

As we mark thirteen remarkable years of service in the villages surrounding Senahu, Guatemala, gratitude fills our hearts. This Christmas season holds a special significance, as it represents not only the joy of our longstanding commitment, but also the bittersweet reality of our final expedition to Guatemala.

Many of you have had the blessed opportunity of working alongside the beautiful and deserving people of Guatemala. The Family Humanitarian journey began with a simple mission: to make a positive difference in the developing world and to become global citizens. Our time serving in Guatemala has helped us refine our vision and create a focus on humanitarian work where we can have the most impact and where our skills are most useful. As we prepare to wrap up this chapter, we reflect on the extraordinary impact we've made together and the connections we’ve enjoyed.

Transformative Impact through Education and Nutrition

Education has been at the heart of our initiatives in Guatemala. By building and supporting local schools, providing educational resources, and offering teacher, business, and professional training, we’ve helped to uplift entire communities. We have helped to pay school fees for promising students and provided a family resource center complete with computers and sewing machines in Senahu to support those wanting to further their education. Our nutrition, education, and garden box programs have been equally transformative. By addressing malnutrition and improving access to healthy food, we’ve empowered families to lead healthier lives.

Building Health Clinics

One of the most tangible ways we’ve made a difference is through the establishment of health clinics throughout the region. These clinics have become lifelines for countless families, offering room for essential medical services. These facilities have provided a sense of security, hope, and a place to gather for ongoing education in the communities we serve.

Clean Water Projects

Access to clean water is fundamental to health and well-being, and our clean water projects have had a profound impact on the villages we’ve worked with. By providing families with water purification systems, and communities with water holding tanks, we’ve helped to prevent waterborne diseases and ensured that families have a reliable source of clean water. This vital resource has transformed daily life, reducing the burden of illness and freeing up time for education and economic activities.

A Legacy of Love

The relationships we’ve built with the people of Guatemala are perhaps the most cherished aspect of our work. Their resilience, kindness, and determination have inspired us. Every smile, every story shared, the fingernails painted, the songs sung, the games played, and every life touched has left an indelible mark on our hearts. These friendships and experiences have enriched our lives in ways words can hardly capture. Every person who has participated has learned that love truly needs no translation.

A New Chapter: Expanding Our Reach

As we close this chapter in Guatemala, we are excited to focus our efforts on countries where we have ongoing, non-expedition-based programs. This strategic shift will allow us to deepen our impact and address critical needs in regions where we are seeing undeniable impact in our clean water and education programs. While it is difficult to say goodbye to Guatemala, we are confident that this decision will enable us to continue making a significant difference elsewhere.

Forever Grateful

Our friends in Guatemala will always hold a special place in our hearts. The memories we’ve created, the lives we’ve touched, and the lessons we’ve learned will remain with us as we move forward. We celebrate the incredible journey we’ve shared and look forward to new opportunities to serve and support communities around the world, with a current focus on Africa.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this extraordinary journey. Your support, dedication, generosity, and compassion have made this possible. Here’s to a future filled with continued impact, growth, and the unwavering spirit of humanitarianism.
