Electrical Technology News

Students in the Electrical Technology program at Region 10 have been putting their skills to work every day as they prepare for careers in the electrical trade. This year, four of our second-year students represented the program at the SkillsUSA State Competition, with two students competing in the Electrical Construction Wiring contest and two students competing in the Electrical Construction Knowledge test. These students did an excellent job representing Region 10 and demonstrated both strong hands-on ability and technical knowledge.

Back in the shop, our first-year students are currently focused on conduit bending, building accuracy, consistency, and confidence with layout and hand tools. This is a key step as they get ready to move into one of the most exciting parts of the year - service entrance installations. Students have also benefited from generous donations and hands-on training opportunities from companies such as Ideal Industries, Leviton, and Rexel, giving them exposure to real tools, materials, and techniques used in the field. With Region 10’s upcoming expansion to The Landing, students can look forward to even more opportunities with updated lab space and expanded training capabilities. It’s an exciting time for the program, and our students continue to take full advantage of every opportunity to build their skills for the future.

FOT World History News

A Note from Mr. Joe Sheppard – FOT World History

This quarter the FOT World History program has been focused on the Mediterranean world, with units focusing on both ancient Greece and Rome. Studying these topics through a lens of civics, students have learned about the foundations of democracy and how it connects to today.

One of the highlights of the ancient Greece unit was an interdisciplinary approach to Greek culture with the FOT Laboratory’s exploratory Architecture and Engineering Design unit. As students learned about Athenian culture and democracy, they built replica floor plans of the Parthenon. This hands-on experience allowed students to build a deeper understanding of the building and its symbolism.

As we have entered the Ides of March, the FOT World History program has become fully immersed in the Roman Republic. One of the best moments of this unit has been a classwide debate. Taking different historical perspectives from within the Roman Senate, students had a chance to develop both their critical thinking and public speaking skills. For many students, this was the first time they had a structured debate in class. Many students appreciated the hands-on aspect of this style of activity.

Foundations of Technology

A Note from Mr. Ward Boudreau – Foundations of Technology

The Foundations of Technology program is in full swing! Our students have been busy bridging the gap between historical design and modern manufacturing through our integrated curriculum.

Architectural and Engineering Design Program Review

We recently completed our Architectural and Engineering Design Program Review by combining our technical lab work with our FoT Social Studies curriculum. Each student researched historical facts regarding the Parthenon and applied that data to a technical floor plan. This project challenged students to ensure their engineering drawings were not only precise but historically accurate to the classical structures they studied.

Digital Media & Practical Application

We have since transitioned into our Digital Media segment. Using Aspire software, students are developing original drawings designed for real-world fabrication. These digital designs serve a practical purpose: they are the blueprints used to operate our CNC router and CNC plasma torch. This allows students to see the immediate transition from a digital concept to a tangible, finished product.

Looking Ahead: Program Readiness Evaluations

As we look toward next year, we are beginning our Program Readiness Evaluations. This is a vital step in helping students transition into their future program of choice.

  • Individual Action Plans: We are reviewing each student individually to provide a customized "Action Plan" for the coming year.
  • Targeted Growth: These evaluations help students identify specific areas where they need to focus their efforts to meet the high expectations of their next program.
  • The Big Picture: This tool is excellent for helping students understand how their specific skills and behaviors fit into the larger school environment and professional world.

We are excited to see the progress our students are making as we wrap up our digital media segments and prepare for Auto Collision!

Pre-Apprenticeship at Region Ten

A Note from Mr. Jason Darling - Pre-Apprenticeship

The Pre-Apprenticeship has had a busy third quarter, both in the classroom and on the jobsite! Students are wrapping up the “Credit/Credit Score” unit, and will finish the third quarter with a unit on Work Law. Thus far students have worked in financial literacy and professional writing units ranging from basic banking to filing your taxes, and completed career exploration projects, as well as honing their professional correspondence skills.

Students will begin the fourth quarter studying entrepreneurship and saving for retirement. Student employment is at an all time high, as part of the curriculum of the program is to attain a job with an employer in their field of interest, and to complete training with said employer throughout the school year. Students have a wide range of jobs, from working as an automotive technician at Casco Bay Ford to working as a CNA in the Emergency Room at Midcoast Hospital. Employers are reporting back great things from our students!
