Forging Safety:

Region 10 Collaborates with Topsham Police

MFW is building a target and stand for the Topsham Police Department, which will be used to aid in the training of their less than lethal rounds.

Instructor Cory Higgins explained the project. "The target is constructed from 1/4" steel, and will stand 6' tall. Due to the size of the target and the challenge of cutting it out in multiple sections on the plasma table, we elected to go with the old school route. By collaborating with our Creative Digital Media program we were able to scale and print out a full size image of the target. Several students (along with a Student of the Year alumni who happened to be here on that day) set to work on cutting out the image and laying it out onto the 1/4" sheet of steel.

Once the image was laid out on the sheet, students used center punches and hammers to mark out the entire outline of the target. Once all the center punch marks were made soap stone was used to outline the target as well. After we had the outline double marked, one of our students used the Oxy Acetylene torch to carefully hand cut around the target, after the target was cut from the sheet of steel, two students set to work grinding the rough edges until the target was smooth and safe to handle. These students have been working hard on this project and they are still currently developing and designing the stand to which the target will be mounted onto."

Learning Through Play: Region 10 Pre-School

Our Early Childhood Education students have been learning the art and science of teaching through our Pre-school program. As part of their hands-on training, they've been designing and implementing educational activities that engage and challenge our preschool learners. This program not only enhances their skills as future educators but also enriches the lives of the children they teach. Catch a glimpse of their hard work and dedication in our video tour.

C.N.A: Our heroes in Training

Our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students have been actively preparing for their upcoming clinical rotations with practical labs in shaving, feeding, bathing, and transferring. Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of over 54 volunteers on shaving day, our students are well-prepared to apply their skills in real-world settings starting this week.

Additionally, mark your calendars for our 11th annual Holiday Card Making Service Day this December! Join us in crafting 600 handmade cards to spread holiday cheer in our community before the winter break. It's a wonderful way to give back and showcase the creativity and compassion of our students.
