JMG Students Explore Career Pathways

This fall, students in the Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG) program have been busy exploring real-world career opportunities across the state. Through a series of hands-on field trips and guest presentations, students gained insight into Maine’s thriving industries and the wide range of technical and trade careers available to them.

So far this year, JMG students have attended Midcoast Construction Day in West Bath, BIW Industries Day, toured the Maine Center for Innovation alongside Region 10’s CAD program, and visited Maine Maritime and Space Tech. In November, they also welcomed SSgt. Anderson of the U.S. Air Force, who shared information about over 350 career paths and emphasized the importance of skilled trades in the military.

Coming up in December, students will meet with Mark Cater, Admissions Representative from Universal Technical Institute (UTI)—the nation’s largest technical college—to learn more about postsecondary options in high-demand technical fields. Each experience helps students connect classroom learning with future career possibilities right here in Maine and beyond!

Color Theory in Creative Digital Media

Students in the Creative Digital Media program explored color theory through a hands-on, multi-step design sequence. Beginning in Adobe Illustrator, they created digital quilt square designs based on color harmonies such as analogous, complementary, triadic, and split-complementary schemes.

They then brought their favorite designs to life in the studio as stained glass pieces, learning how light and transparency affect color relationships. Next, students created black and white composites in Photoshop and then recolored them using the color combinations they developed in Illustrator—applying theory to evoke mood, depth, and atmosphere in their digital artwork. The sequence concluded with a custom sublimation tumbler project, where students transformed their digital work into functional art pieces.

The result? A vivid blend of creativity, technology, and craftsmanship that celebrates both artistic vision and practical design skill.

CNA Students Practice Patient Care Skills

Our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students have been hard at work preparing for their upcoming clinical rotations by learning the essentials of patient grooming and personal care. Before working with real patients, they practiced on “balloon patients” to master safe techniques in shaving, feeding, bathing, and transferring—skills that require precision, compassion, and professionalism.

With the help of more than 50 enthusiastic volunteers during Shaving Lab Day, students gained valuable experience in grooming and communication, helping them build confidence for their real-world placements beginning this week.

As the semester winds down, students will create 600 handmade cards to spread joy and kindness throughout our community before winter break—a beautiful reflection of the care and creativity they bring to every part of their training.

CNA & EMT Students Join Brunswick Fire Department

Our Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and students recently joined forces for a community presentation at the Brunswick Fire Department.

Students introduced new life-saving technology, including an automated CPR machine, and demonstrated Timmy, our high-fidelity pediatric patient simulator, which helps train students to respond to real-life emergencies.

Adding some extra fun, students also dressed as Sparky the Fire Dog and Smokey the Bear, bringing smiles to kids and families while sharing important lessons about emergency care and fire safety.

We’re so proud of our students for representing Region 10 Technical High School and showing what teamwork between health and public safety programs can achieve!

R10 Joins the Cisco Networking Academy

This fall, Region 10's IT & Cybersecurity program officially became a Cisco Networking Academy partner, connecting students with hands-on, industry-relevant training and an incredible library of online resources from one of the most respected names in technology.

In the classroom, students have been hard at work mastering the fundamentals of computer systems—learning how to identify hardware components, understand how they work together, and complete full disassembly and reassembly projects. Along the way, they’ve shown impressive curiosity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

The program offers a well-rounded introduction to technology through key areas of study:

  • IT Essentials – Computer hardware, software, mobile devices, virtualization, and cloud computing
  • Operating Systems – Windows, Linux, and macOS
  • Networking – Foundational networking concepts and hands-on practice
  • Cybersecurity – Threats, vulnerabilities, best practices, and security tools

With this combination of real-world training and professional certification opportunities, students are building valuable skills that open doors to future careers in technology and cybersecurity.
