Greetings! It has been a busy season for the Hospice Society. Keep reading to learn about our new office, our fall support groups and our upcoming Celebrate-A-Life Memory Tree. Featured Board Member: Doreen Fraser Doe Fraser has served on the Board of Directors since 2016, primarily in the role of Fundraising Chair. Her efforts have greatly increased the financial security of the Hospice Society as well as raised funds for the Hospice House building. Her term is coming to an end in November. Palliative Care in Powell River The Division of Family Practice is conducting a survey on the community's awareness of palliative care. It takes less than 3 minutes to complete. Thank you for participating! Take the Survey

FALL PROGRAMS

Our 8-week Caregiver and Grief Support Groups have begun, each with 15 participants. Julia Adam, our music therapy intern, has started a weekly Tea & Tunes , an hour of music, refreshments and social time on the 4th floor of the hospital. This provides some much needed interaction and enjoyment for patients. The community memorial event, Momento Mori, took place on November 4th at Cranberry Cemetery and was well-attended. Participants enjoyed music, cemetery tours and a lantern procession. Thank you to all who contributed to, and attended, this meaningful event.

AGM Our  Annual General Meeting  is 7 p.m., November 22nd at Willingdon Creek Village (4980 Kiwanis Rd.)  We will be providing an annual update, financial report and electing Board members.  Please join us! Refreshments provided.

Celebrate-A-Life Tree Our annual Celebrate-A-Life Tree will be at the Town Centre Mall Saturdays in December. Community members will have the opportunity to honour a loved one who has died by making out a memory tag to hang on the tree. The tree offers a way to honour and remember those who have died in our community. November 20, 2018  National Bereavement Day is a day to "reflect on the importance of relationships past and present...and to help advocate for supports...for grieving Canadians."
