Take a Tour with Bayer Fund Recipients

A group of our recent Bayer Fund recipients made a stop at our Marana Product Development Center to find out more about what we do.

The Bayer Fund awarded $60,000 in grants to area nonprofits tackling malnutrition and food insecurity, community service, and enhancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education in school systems.

“The Bayer Marana team is proud to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators in our community,” said Engagement Lead Stefanie Boe. “Our priority is to assist those organizations who help build strong and resilient communities. Since the program began, 38 local organizations have received more than $350,000 in grants to support their goals.”

The 2022 Bayer Fund grant recipients include:

The University of Arizona’s Cooper Center for Environmental Learning, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor, Sahuarita Food Bank, SARSEF: Southern Arizona Research Science and Engineering Foundation, United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona (supporting Laguna Elementary School's garden) and Youth On Their Own.

We look forward to seeing more of the amazing work done by these groups. The grant window opens up for 2023 in January.

Bayer Marana Wins Award

Bayer Marana won the SHRM of Greater Tucson Community Impact Award!

Bayer Marana was nominated anonymously by someone in the community who recognized our contributions to local non-profits and volunteering. We were finalists among wonderful organizations like Pima Federal Credit Union and the United Way. Just being nominated with them was such an honor for us! The Community Impact award was just one of many handed out at the Celebrating Innovations in the Workplace ceremony.

Bayer Marana in the Community

United Way Days of Caring, Sahuarita Food Bank and Tucson Botanical Gardens

As part of Bayer’s efforts to connect with the community, along with our “Health for All, Hunger for None” initiative, our Bayer Marana Greenhouse team recently volunteered at the Sahuarita Food Bank and Community Resource Center. The new community food bank says its mission is “Strive to meet the nutritional needs of the hungry through the acquisition and distribution of healthy food. In collaboration with community partners and clients.”

The team spent part of their day putting hundreds of bags of food together for kids to take home, as some kids in the area get most of their meals at school. These efforts will help feed at least 450 students at 8 local schools over the weekend outside of school hours.

We also attended the Tucson Botanical Garden Lights Up! A Festival of Illumination kick-off. Bayer Marana is a proud community sponsor of the event. Tucson Botanical Gardens has been a regular holiday destination for visitors for more than 30 years. There are over a million lights and our team volunteered throughout the year to help put those lights together.

Our team also picked up some rakes and shovels and made their way to Mission Gardens to help with the 2022 United Way Day of Caring. They helped with planting and clearing out areas along with workers and volunteers. The United Way says it's the single largest community volunteer event in Arizona. Bayer Marana was also a copper sponsor of this year's event. Great work team Bayer!!!

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN FOR THE GROW AG LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP

Bayer is continuing to help develop the future of farming through specialized funding and awarding scholarships to current and future students. From now until January 12, 2023 student applications for the Bayer Fund GROW AG Leaders scholarship are still available. It's a chance to win a $1,500 scholarship to help pay for an Ag related degree. There are over 250 careers ranging from business management to biochemistry, dairy science and diesel mechanics.

Students who are currently enrolled or planning to enroll in trade schools, community college or universities can apply. Future Farmers of America(FFA) will hand out the scholarships, but you don't have to be a member to apply.

Since 2010 the Grow Ag Leaders program has awarded more than $4 million dollars in scholarships to over 2,000 students across the U.S.

The application deadline is January 12, 2023!!!!
