Dear Fearless! Community,

Summer is here, and with it comes celebration and action. This past month, we honored Pride, uplifted youth leadership and prevention education, and stood firm in our national advocacy efforts. Whether you joined us for the Day of Action, stopped by a community table, or shared our message, your support helps us build a safer, more just world for all. Here's a look at what we've accomplished together and what lies ahead.

Impactful Events

Pride Month

At Fearless!, we believe that everyone deserves to live free from violence, regardless of gender identity, expression, or sexual orientation. During Pride Month, we honor the strength and resilience of LGBTQ+ survivors while recognizing the unique challenges they face.

Domestic violence in LGBTQ+ relationships is often underreported and misunderstood. Barriers like fear of being outed, discrimination, and a lack of affirming resources can make it harder to seek help. Studies show that LGBTQ+ individuals experience intimate partner violence at equal or higher rates than their heterosexual and cisgender peers.

Outreach & Prevention Education

This school year, our Education Team wrapped up another partnership with Pine Bush High School, where our educators visited twice a month throughout the academic year to facilitate two critical prevention programs: Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) and Love146’s Not a Number.

This ongoing collaboration is made possible by the support of Kara Sprague, who has welcomed Fearless! into her classroom year after year, ensuring students have access to meaningful, real-world learning experiences. In recognition of her commitment to youth empowerment and community change, Kara was honored with our Hope Award in 2022.

Through MVP, students were trained through a bystander-focused prevention model that engaged participants in conversations about bullying, harassment, gender-based violence, and the importance of speaking up. MVP emphasizes that there’s no single way to take action, but that each of us has a role to play in disrupting cycles of violence, both in-person and online.

Love146’s Not a Number complemented this work by equipping youth with the knowledge and tools to recognize and prevent human trafficking and exploitation. The curriculum helps students identify risky situations, develop safe boundaries, and understand the importance of trust and consent.

We’re grateful to Kara and the entire Pine Bush community for creating space where these critical conversations can flourish, year after year.

Thank You For Taking Action

On June 5, Fearless! joined advocates from across the country for a powerful Day of Action, calling on legislators to protect critical funding for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Thanks to your support, at least 60 people from our community contacted their representatives and key Congressional Committee members, sending a clear, unified message: Survivors deserve access to safety, support, and justice.

With federal funding delays and proposed cuts putting rape crisis centers, shelters, and prevention programs at risk, your voice truly matters. These funds are not optional; they’re essential. You showed up, spoke out, and helped remind lawmakers that survivors must never be forgotten. Your voices made a powerful impact, but the fight isn’t over.

Congress is still considering proposals that would slash or delay funding for the programs survivors rely on every day. If you haven’t yet or are ready to speak out again, now is the time. Use our easy tool to contact your representatives and urge them to protect VOCA, RPE, DELTA, and the Office on Violence Against Women. For assistance on what to say, visit our toolkit for example scripts and directions on how to connect with your representatives.

Ask Me Why I'm Fearless!

We’re excited to launch our new multimedia and merch campaign: Fearless! Voices, an invitation to uplift survivors, advocates, and allies through bold storytelling, wearable activism, and real conversations. Our first theme: Ask Me Why I'm Fearless!

At Fearless!, we work every day to end domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, and all forms of abuse. But what makes us truly fearless?

  • We center survivors in every decision we make.
  • We believe that safety is a human right.
  • We lead with empathy, not judgment.
  • We advocate, educate, and empower.
  • We show up in schools, shelters, courtrooms, and communities.

Our team is made up of advocates, educators, counselors, and changemakers who are fearless in the face of injustice. And we’re proud to stand beside survivors every step of the way.

You’ll start seeing this message on our shirts, buttons, and stickers, available online and at community tabling events all summer long. Wear it proudly, start a conversation, share your story - because being fearless isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it looks like listening, like showing up, like refusing to look away.

Partner Spotlight

Garnet Health Medical Center

We’re proud to shine this month’s spotlight on our Corporate Sponsor Garnet Health, a steadfast and compassionate partner in our mission to support survivors and strengthen communities. Their commitment to uplifting our work in Sullivan County, particularly through support of our Sexual Assault Services Program, has been nothing short of extraordinary. They’ve provided critical support to ensure that survivors of sexual violence have access to compassionate, trauma-informed care and advocacy.

Their generosity extends far beyond program support. For several years, Garnet Health has gone above and beyond during their Thanksgiving Drive, each time packing a van full of dinner sides, appetizers, vegetables, desserts, and more to help the families we serve enjoy a warm, comforting holiday meal. This annual tradition brings joy to dozens of survivors and their loved ones.

They are also one of our most generous contributors to our Holiday Gift Project, thoughtfully collecting gifts for multiple families every year to ensure that those we serve feel seen, supported, and celebrated during the holiday season.

Garnet Health has also been a visible and vocal partner in raising awareness. Each year, they participate in Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day, helping bring attention to the intersection of healthcare and abuse prevention. During our virtual campaign in 2020, Garnet Health’s CEO Jonathan Schiller spoke publicly about their collaboration with Fearless! and the shared responsibility of supporting survivors within healthcare systems. See Video Here

In addition, Garnet Health has sponsored many of our signature events, including our Annual Brunch, Golf Outing, 5K, and more. We are truly grateful for Garnet Health’s unwavering support and leadership. Thank you for standing with us as we work to reclaim safety, dignity, and hope for all survivors.

As we head into the second half of the year, we're reminded that being Fearless! is about showing up, again and again, for survivors, for youth, for change. We thank you for standing beside us, whether you're wearing our message, speaking out to legislators, or supporting our work behind the scenes, you are part of this movement. Stay connected, stay loud, and most importantly, stay fearless.
