Good Morning!
What a wild week in the Ag world. Planting progress in some parts of Ohio increased dramatically: Wilmington, Lancaster, Marion, Circleville, Ashland, Bucyrus, and several other areas were able to plant a few days this week. The corn markets are beginning to react to the lack of progress, and Trump announced MFP 2.0 payments this week, which may decrease PP acres. Hopefully we can get to planting next week!

Closing Wheels Shine in these Conditions
I have visited with several farmers who have planted corn this week and all of them say the same thing "If it were any other year I would have never planted in the conditions I did." This year is of course an outlier in terms of planting conditions. When conditions are marginal, closing wheels make a huge difference on emergence. Being that all of these acres are being planted into wet conditions, how much weight can we actually put on the planting progress reports, just because it is planted, doesn't mean it will be harvested. This week may have been our biggest week for closing wheel sales this entire spring. If you think you may plant in marginal scenarios, you will want poly spikes to help.
