Tyler's Law
On August 22nd we got the great news that Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB864 into law. It was eleven months of getting an author, meeting with various hospital association lobbyists, presenting to the California Emergency Nurses Association, our testifying twice in Sacramento, and getting friends and family to call in and write letters of support. It will go into effect January 1, 2023. Had it been common practice back in October of 2018 to do a separate toxicology screen for fentanyl, or had the emergency room doctor known that their standard opioid test does not test for fentanyl, Tyler might be alive today. We are confident that this bill will save lives and spare others the heartache of losing a loved one. We believe that fentanyl testing should be common practice in emergency rooms in every state, and we are trying to get Tyler's Law passed federally.
