CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF SOARING HEROES - SUSYBELLE GOSSLEE, FOUNDER

Our Friends Place (OFP) kicks off the New Year celebrating 30 years of Soaring Heroes by recognizing a truly special Soaring Hero -- OFP's founder, Susybelle Gosslee. In the 80's, Susybelle's Junior League volunteer placement exposed her to new realities that she was not aware were everyday occurrences for many young women. This experience changed her perspective and how she engaged with the young women she was mentoring. She realized services for girls and young women going through abuse, neglect, and poverty in Dallas were practically non-existent. In order to fill this void in services, Susybelle founded Our Friends Place in 1985 and the organization served its first client in 1987.

For Susybelle, "It's all about the women. Our Friends Place took an opportunity to grow into another way of serving women and not have them shamed and pushed in a corner." Thank you Susybelle, for your leadership and compassion in making changes so the girls and young women served over the course of 30 years could be empowered to become successful and self-reliant citizens in the community!

 About Our Friends Place

Our Friends Place helps young women, between the ages of 18 and 24, break the generational cycles of abuse, neglect, poverty and homelessness through empowering self-reliance and independence. OFP provides a supportive home and teaches the skills young women need to become self-reliant adults. OFP young women enroll in an educational or vocational program, hold a job and pay a portion of their earnings as rent and savings.
