Debra Woithe, Manatee County’s Environmental Lands Manager is guest speaker at the Natural Resources action committee meeting.

Debra Woithe, Manatee County’s Environmental Lands Manager, will be our guest speaker at this month’s meeting. Debra joined Manatee County in 2021 to further establish the Environmental Lands Program and implement the land conservation referendum that was supported by over 70% of Manatee County’s voters. She works with the Environmental Lands Management and Acquisition Committee (ELMAC), county staff and strategic partners to acquire and manage conservation and recreational land in Manatee County.

A Conversation: Doctors Practicing in a Post-Roe World

Florida Legislature passed a 6 week ban on abortion, which was signed by Governor DeSantis on April 13, 2023. We have a chance to assure that the doctors, not the politicians, will guide patients in making their personal healthcare decisions by approving Amendment 4 on the 2024 general election ballot, "Limit Government Interference with Abortion".

What happens when a ban on abortions goes into effect? Join us for a conversation with two physicians who personally deal with the impact of politics on reproductive rights.

Speakers:

Dr. Misa Perron-Burdick, OB/GYN, was practicing in San Francisco, California, then moved to Boise, Idaho, two weeks before Roe was overturned. After the US Supreme Court decision Idaho quickly enacted an absolute ban on abortion. Dr Perron-Burdick handles high risk pregnancies and delivery complications and is on the front line observing the impacts of the abortion ban on a doctor’s ability to practice medicine and its impact ob/gyn healthcare for the women of Idaho.

Dr. Marian Sampson, OB/GYN, works with Planned Parenthood of Southwest-Central Florida. Dr. Sampson was a teen mother at 18, and her experience with her personal physician inspired her to become a doctor and ob/gyn herself. Dr. Sampson grew up in Mississippi. She graduated from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, and completed her obstetrics & gynecology residency at St. Petersburg Bayfront Medical.

Voter Services Action Team Meeting

There is lots of excitement for the election ahead! Voter Registration, Voters Guides, Candidate Forums and Returning Citizens are in-process. This meeting will include brainstorming on ways to reach youth for voter registration and education on where to get nonpartisan voting information! LWVMC has received a grant to assist in this effort. Join us!

You only need to register one time and that registration is good for all of 2024’s Voter Services Meetings.
