Faith for Our Future

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible...for whoever would approach God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

-Hebrews 11

World Communion Bread Making

Spiritual Preparation for a Time of Unity

Prepare breads to grace our communion table on World Communion Sunday! On Thursday, October 3 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Land Building, we will create two world breads including focaccia. A dinner will be served to compliment the breads.

The cost of $15/person includes dinner and breadmaking ingredients for a loaf to bring home, plus two recipes. A check (made out to "SCAPC" with bread making in the memo) delivered to Emily in the church office is your reservation for the event. Reserve by noon on Monday, September 30.

Bringing Breads of the World

for World Communion Sunday

World Communion Sunday is October 6. As in years past we hope to have a display of different kinds of breads – baguettes, tortillas, round loaves, hallahs, ryes, etc. – to represent the Body of Christ across the world on our communion table. Please bring your donation of bread no later than 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 6 to the fridge on the first floor. There will be a box labeled for donations. Thank you!

Join us on Saturday, October 5 for our ALL-church Fall Day of Service! We have painting, gardening, organizing, sorting, furniture-assembling projects for all ages and abilities serving our Community and Global Ministry partners across the city and here at SCAPC. We will gather for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in Frampton Fellowship Hall and disburse to our service sites at 9 a.m. All projects will wrap up by noon, if not earlier. Details on all available projects and sign-ups can be found at this link, or you can sign up following worship this Sunday!

Interfaith Dialogue on Racism with Baha'i

Join our neighborhood Bahai’s for a discussion on faith-led responses to racism. Almost no aspect of society is untouched by racism. Join us as faith practitioners from different backgrounds explore our faith’s call toward eradicating racism and how we as members of different faiths can work together towards building a peace and just-filled world in New Orleans. We will meet on October 10th at 6:30 p.m. at the Rosenwald Rec Center at 1120 S Broad St. NOLA 70125 (Annex, Room 2). If you wish to carpool from SCAPC, meet outside the SCAPC Land Building at 6:00 p.m.

"Seeing the World from the Perspective of Those Living with Dementia"

People living with dementia aren’t trying to give you a hard time - they are having a hard time! Our relationship with someone living with dementia is the most important thing at that moment. By understanding the difference between typical and atypical aging, we can examine how changing our approach can support those living with brain change. There is still so much living to do after a diagnosis of dementia. With the right support and the right care, we can help people living with dementia still lead lives filled with value and purpose.

Reserve your place by contacting Kasey Bealer at kaseyb@teepasnow.com or 504-710-6345.

Youth News

VOLUNTEERING AT DIAPER BANK: This month at Youth Group, we’ve been discussing how when we put aside convenience and our pride and decide instead to focus on love, a richer life awaits us. This past Sunday afternoon, 17 youth gave up their free time (during a Saints game no less!) to package diapers for local families in need. Because of their efforts, we packaged over 12,600 diapers for distribution! And for that, our hearts are full, and our community is a little bit richer! Pictured here are Ann Colin Beevers and Bradley Richard; two group shots; and William Graves, Liam Kennedy, Sophia DeFraites and Delanie Sundmaker.

THIS WEEKEND: Scripture at PJ's for 6th-12th graders will meet at the Maple Street PJ's on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Sunday School will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Youth Room and Youth Group will meet there at from 5-7:30 p.m.

Adult Classes

“Genesis” September 8-November 24 | Phifer Library

The Bible’s first book contains many well-known stories, some familiar since childhood: creation and the garden of Eden; an ark full of animals adrift in a flood; Abraham and Isaac; the conniving Jacob; and the dreams of Joseph. Now hear these stories again in a new way, and in hearing, discover the knowledge that God created everything in goodness and love.

This coming Sunday's class will center on Genesis 4:1-16, "Cain and Abel", led by Richard Ashmore

“Faith at Home: A Handbook for Cautiously Christian Parents”

September 8 - November 24 | 2nd floor conference room

As parents, we strive to help our children develop a strong moral foundation, including a strong understanding of Christian faith. With so many contradictions from mainstream culture, however, many parents are left feeling as though religious language is a foreign language and are unsure how to incorporate faith practices into family life. Faith at Home aims to help parents learn this “second language” and introduce it to children in simple and meaningful ways.

This coming Sunday's topic will be "Bible Stories", led by Sarah Edgecombe.

Two-Year-Old Bible Presentation

Last Sunday, our two-year-olds received their first Bibles and were introduced to Bible stories by the 4th and 5th graders of the Challenger Class! Pictured here is Camille Rault with her Bible and the full group!
