COVID-19 Updates for Girl Scouts
Dear Girl Scout families,

We hope that you are staying healthy and positive as the situation evolves and the entire state is now under the Governor’s Stay at Home Order. This is now week three of school closures, activity cancellations, and work from home situations, and we have been working to create and connect you with a variety of resources to help you engage your girls during this time We are committed to ensuring that our girls and families continue to feel connected with Girl Scouts, and are excited about news ways to participate virtually! Below, you will find our most recent updates.

Closures and Cancellations
With the Governor’s Stay at Home Order as well as last week’s extension of school closures across North Carolina to May 15, we have also extended the suspension of all in-person Girl Scout events, trainings, camp reservations, troop activities and travel as well as closure of our offices through May 15.

Connect with our Program Team: Facebook Live
The program team will be hosting a Facebook Live event every Thursday. Join them  on Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines  at 3:15pm. This will be a wonderful engagement opportunity for our Girl Scout families and our #OurGSNCCPCommunity. This week, Sheryl McGlory, one of our Camp Directors, will be taking girls on an outdoor adventure for the first Facebook live event. Please feel free to share our Facebook live opportunity/recording with others in your network. It will be a great resource for all G.I.R.Ls during this time away from friends and classmates.

Highest Awards Update
The safety and health of our Girl Scouts is our top priority. We urge Girl Scout families to take the time they need to acclimate without the added stress of impending deadlines. Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines recognizes that many schools, youth activities and community gatherings have been suspended, and that we are navigating a period of rapid change. Girl Scouts is offering a three-month extension of the annual deadline from September 30 to December 31, 2020, to provide flexibility for Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors earning Girl Scouts’ Highest Awards. Family Support Resources
Millions of families are trying to keep the learning alive at home amid virus-related school closures—even while they attempt to adjust to their own new work-from-home realities, stock up on household essentials, and do everything in their power to keep their loved ones healthy. Frankly? It’s a lot. Check out Beyond Virtual Fieldtrips: Distance Learning During Coronavirus School Closures for insights on navigating this area with your family.

In your girl’s eyes, it seems like everything fun or even meaningful has been canceled. From birthday parties and vacations to school plays, sports, and possibly even graduation ceremonies, a lot of special moments your girl has hoped and planned for are suddenly either postponed or simply not happening. You can find guidance on how to Help Your Girl Cope with Disappointment in the Face of COVID-19 through this blog on Girl Scouts’ Raising Awesome Girls.

While much is uncertain, we know one thing for sure – Girl Scouts will always be a place where girls can find support, resources, and a community ready to champion her.

Yours in Girl Scouting,
